Amatuer Photographer, retired Police Officer
Hi...
Always nice to see retired LEO's on this site......I am also a retired LEO [ 32 years for the Broward Sheriff's Office in Florida ].........I have been into photography for about 45 years......started when I was in the USAF in the 70's.....when I got out of the military before starting my LE career I started doing wedding photography.... my wife's friend was a wedding photography and she asked me if I would like to learn how to do weddings....I said sure so for a couple of months I followed her around shooting at her weddings for experience and then went out on my own.....so for the next few year while in college I made a living doing weddings, family portraits and little league sports.I have done over 200 weddings......haven't done any for 15 years but I still love photography....I love doing sun sets.....waterfalls.....butterflies.....and in the past 3 months I have started doing "water drops"...it is amazing and the photos you get are unreal.....sometimes I will spend 2 - 3 hours shooting 500 - 600 shots and only getting a few that I like....it is a real challenge....
I better stop.......must be getting boring for you reading all this.....
What type photography are you into?.......I am also into Drone photography and video....I just finished a video for the golf course.......

Not sure who you’re asking, as there are several of us who are retired LEO’s here on UHH. To answer a specific person, just click on “quote,” so they will know who you’re asking or commenting on.
For me, I’ve been into photography since 1967. I like shooting landscapes, sunsets and flowers. I don’t do action photography like sports, and rarely do birds.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome, enjoy and have fun.
A warm welcome to the UHH family. Learn, share and enjoy the fellowship of a great group of photographers.

Welcome and thank you for your service. Now we need to see some of your photos.

I have been doing photography approximately 40 years. It amazes me how you can freeze time. I have done weddings, senior pictures landscapes little leagues and portraits as an amatuer and enjoying every minute of it. I just wish I was good at editing and keeping them organized on my computer, I'm not very handy with the computer. I also like the natural photos without touch up. I look forward to viewing all the wonderful photos and getting advice from all of you, thank you.
Thank You for your time behind a Badge and hopefully retiring was your choice. Welcome to the Hedgehog.
Welcome. I too appreciate you who work to keep our communities safe, often at personal risk. Have fun. Humor and sarcasm are allowed!

Welcome, lawdog! I spent 27 years behind a badge so your service is much appreciated.
Awesome! Lots of retired badges here! Those badges still on-duty are faced with SO MUCH more out there.
Now I'm glad to trip the trigger of my Nikon on positive views through the sights. The only adrenalin rush is when I start out on a new trail or if that bear just scented me. The vest I wear is goose down.
The animals in the woods are real animals, and the only thief maybe a hungry chipmunk or raccoon. The sirens are Steller Jays and Ravens. Code-7 is a Cliff Bar and an apple. The patrol supervisor is the weatherman.
Have fun and be safe and use a lot of pixels.
Welcome from another LEO. There is much to enjoy and learn here. Some of the members are true experts in the field of gathering light to create a photograph.

Welcome to UHH Lawdog, glad you joined us.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

Welcome to the UHH. You have been given a lot of good advice here. A county or community photography class could be a relatively painless way to get started. Since you imply that you are not too computer savvy, ask before you sign up for the class. Many classes list that they presume you are computer proficient and maybe are familiar with a particular software package.
A couple things as a newbie here. Everyone has an opinion. And some are so devoted to their particular brand/model camera that they think nothing else in existence is comparable or worthy. Another good advice I'd like to repeat. Some are as politically polarized as they are blindly dedicated to the brand of camera they decided to buy. Try to avoid the politics on the way to making some friends, sharing your pictures, asking for or giving help, etc.
And I would add: most here are very supportive and friendly to new folks, and to those who are not professional photographers, but you might encounter a few who think that unless you are (1) trying always to make the most awesome piece of art, or (2) working to be a successful business photographer, then you are not worthy. Based on your prior status I suspect you have a fairly thick skin. You may occasionally find that useful. Just ignore negative advice and press on. Most comments you receive will be supportive and constructive--concentrate on those.
Welcome, that's one of the things that got me into photography, being able to freeze time.
