We have 325 million US citizens. I hear about 4 millions tests, but not production of 4 million tests kits per day. I heard about the Governor of MD using his Korean wife to help acquire 500.000 test kits from S. Korea. Why did he have to look outside the USA to get what Maryland needed?

And why aren't we keeping our medical staff safe with USA made supplies? I haven't seen masks or gloves in a store in over a month. When do the supplies from USA factories arrive for all of us? - Dennis - Please take the initiative. Please personally phone the White House and ask the question.

Looking forward to the answer you get. We're counting on you!

I hate to say this, but most of that stuff we quit manufacturing in the U.S. years ago. It is easy to issue an order to ramp up production of PPE, but if the manufacturing base isn't tooled up to make the products it isn't going to happen right away.

As far as testing, I can't speak to people in cities, but where I live it takes approximately five days to get the result of a test. That won't do anything to keep people safe. So far there have been 27 tests in our county. One positive, 15 negative and 11 waiting for results.

Ramp up testing and the labs will be even more overwhelmed and it will take longer to get accurate results. It is never as simple as snap your fingers and the problems go away.

I wish what you say here were true, but it isn't. First, government is telling me what to do. We don't have a choice. Second, this isn't just a pandemic, it is a political issue. When we open or don't open is clearly political. Some people are much more concerned about the virus than the possibility of bankruptcy, starvation and civil unrest. Others are more concerned with the economics. Those who have to make the decisions are making them largely because of politics. So like it or not, it is political.

I do however agree with you that it would be much better without the insults. As far as anger, I'm sorry, I am angry. The governor of our state made a decision that cost me my job permanently. Wouldn't you be angry?

I do emphasize with you even though I don’t understand it. I had planned to work until I was 70, but forced to retire at 65 because of circumstances I’d rather not go into. In my case, a year later I ended up running the last few years of my elderly Mother’s life, and now I am finishing ‘Executor’ work. In my case, my retiring “early” freed up time to aid her; I pray you can find something to fill your unexpected time also.

It’s fine for everyone on a pension and collecting social security to stay home. But what about everyone who has to work to feed their families and kep them living indoors. If you’re in the high risk group stay quarantined and shut up. It’s simple really people have to work. Nothing guarantees you cradle to the grave safety. If you want to live in fear the rest of your life I feel sorry for you.

I appreciate that. I have plenty to do. The problem is that now I may not have the money to do it. One of my daughters is married to a soldier. For the first time in the last 12 years they are close enough to visit, but with the travel restrictions we can't. We don't know how much longer they are going to be in driving distance, but it won't be more than nine months tops.

We were also planning on traveling to see our other daughter and her kids. May or may not be able to scrape together the money now. It's pretty expensive to fly to Alaska.

A month before I got laid off we purchased a bunch of stuff to remodel our house, so I have been working on that now. Bad timing spending all that money, but had no way to know that I would lose my job. The remodel should be done in early May and then I still have work to do on my mom's house.

I/m sorry about your mom. My wife had to take care of both her parents when they got dementia and was also the executor of their estate. Lots of work and not much fun.

No one wants your children to lose their jobs or there insurance. That is very sad. However, I wonder if you would feel differently if your children got COVID and one only got sick, but the other one died. Which would you feel was worse? Job or death is the choice here. Maybe your children and you are willing to take a gamble and choose work. What about all the other people working at her place of employ? Sometimes we really need to look beyond our personal needs and wants. Maybe we need to really think about how we would feel if that gamble turned out to be the virus for both offspring. Would you feel at all guilty for pushing your position and them ending up with the negative consequences that might happen? What if the one died and the other brought the disease home to you or their children? What if they gave it to you and others at the funeral? I think majority has to rule on this one.
That said, I am truly sorry for all the folks and family that have or will lose jobs because of this. My wife may lose hers. I would hate that, as do you, but also worry that she might die if she keeps working. Very emotional issue for me. Yours is worse in that it has already happened. I do feel the sincerity of your concern. I just don’t readily see other options than carrying on a few more weeks. Hopefully, your daughters will find better situations in the next few weeks. Please except my sadness as real and accept that I really hate the situation we face today.

You said the Democratic governors were responsible for the virus rules. That excludes the Republican governors. Just ordinary logic.

I do understand Michigan’s “motorboat” rules now; most of them are stored on land in the Winter - when this thing began - and their Governor was getting complaints from their DNR folk about crowds congregating around boat launches. Policing boat launches is a problem, but simply not allowing people to use one if they did get it in the water seemed simple.

Once you eliminate that, Michigan’s rules are similar to what I am living under in Indiana; we did purchase paint to repaint the kitchen, but I believe Lowe’s can provide curbside delivery anywhere. The point is that there is little difference between what was announced by their Democrat Governor and our Republican Governor.

I suggest photos be taken of the protesters & others breaking the rules. Post them in ERs, with the notation, "last in line."

He stopped taking the medication, and lived a healthy life from that point forward.

Sadly, that was the case of my brother. After a relatively few months he had a stroke. :( High blood pressure, the silent killer.

BTW... in regard to this thread, the medical professionals I am talking to are saying the second wave that may come in the fall/winter months could be far more devastating than the first round. I truly believe people congregating in close quarters (homes) will actually compound the issue in winter (Christmas time). We saw this in the 1997 flu season when every hospital was packed and the 9-1-1 system in Los Angeles was maxed out for flu like symptoms. The ride ain't over yet.

A house down the street from one of my co-workers has 15 people living in it. Over the course of 1 week EMS responded to that house and transported 5 people with flu like symptons (COVID19). These were younger people!

Your second wave is a complete lie.
Dr. Fauci personally reiterated this morning that this is a complete lie and is a fabrication of the DNC and fake news. There will be a second wave, possibly, but NOT anywhere near what is happening now.

That one of the reasons we need better testing soon!
We need to fix "little" Covid-19 problems before they become bad ones.

Where did you hear this? I can't find a reference online.
CDC director Redfield has said that he expects a second wave to be worse than the first.
The second wave of the Spanish flu 1917-18 was worse than the first, after social distancing was relaxed.
I'd love to read what you heard Fauci say this morning, and get his reasoning on this.

If that is the case, than Dr. Fauci has completely changed course on what he has said in the past, and what history of flus and pandemics have shown us.

In regards to DNC or RNC or people in general, this isn't political. When you can train the virus to behave to take out a certain class of people than come talk to me.

I have been in healthcare over 40 years. I am a-political when it comes to healthcare. I have studied and helped my region prepare for disasters and pandemics for over 25 years.

My Grandparents both lost their first spouses in the 1918 Spanish Flu during the "second wave" in winter. Ya its real. It may very well happen.

Two types of testing... those that are positive for active SARS COV2, or those that have antigens that show they were exposed and recovered (even symptomless). But, that will not protect the millions that haven't had either test and may have not been exposed (herd immunity).

Vaccine is months away if not years. Why? Because, viruses mutate and this virus has already demonstrated at least 18 mutations according to scientists. So... it is a throw of the dice.
