I don't have much experience or interest in trains yet I find these images to be outstanding. They make me want to check out some trains in Flagstaff, AZ.

Happy trails

Flag, as you probably know, is on BNSF's transcontinental main line, and can be incredibly busy. Here's a shot from east of Flag, just off the interstate at N. Chamiso Road.

Since you're in AZ, check out the Verde Valley train.

Really nice! The lighting for the 2 night shots is great. Was that lighting from the train depot, or did you create it? If you created it, what did you use?

These were both photographers charters, and a pro set up large flash units. He would yell "open", we would all open our shutters on "B", the flash would go off, and we would close our shutters, or leave them open for a few seconds longer for some ambient light. The shot at Osier tank was a fairly long exposure for the Milky Way after the flash went off. This was a Chama Steam (Jay Wimer) charter and we all spent the night in the depot on army cots.

I thought that, perhaps, you had someone illuminating those two scenes with a hand held rechargeable spotlight. Nice photos. Thanks for responding to my question.

I've been watching trains for, as near as I can figure out for about 68 years. I grew up in the UK with steam. My thing is narrow gauge steam, and when we moved to the US I discovered the Cumbres and Toltec. I made train videos for a living for 20+ years, and did a number of photographers charter on the railroad. Riding in an open gondola on a freezing cold pitch black winter morning across the desert, stars blazing overhead, with the firebox light reflecting on the steam from two hard working K-36 2-8-2's is an awesome, unforgettable experience! Chasing a triple-header up the steep grade from Chama to Cumbres summit, loco's working hard is an amazing auditory experience.

Beautiful set, Arcadia1969; clarity, color and detail. These are true eye-candy.
