I remember those commercials.

When I shop now, I buy a large bunch of bananas, but I have to finish them off quickly. It's funny how the taste changes along with the skin color. The aged ones make good banana bread.

At my age, Mark, I never buy green fruit (LOL - George Burns).

My wife filling in for a sick friend at her telemarketing job selling magazine subscriptions. She offered a one-year subscription to a man, and he said he had only six months to live. She paused and said, "How about a half-year subscription?" He laughed and agreed.

Good idea! Maybe, instead of a photo contest, UHH can sponsor a Chiquita Banana song contest?
Might help those who are bored. I'm not one of them. You and others keep me hopping.
Mark

Maybe a photo contest based on the song and/or Carmen's hat?

Before my Mom passed on, her dementia progressed to the point that she couldn’t recognize any of her family members, even her own children. But she could remember and sing the complete Chiquita banana song for her visitors. Despite what the song says, Mom would put her bananas in the fridge so they would keep longer.

Mark, I always keep bananas in the refrig. I have seen the them turn completely black outside, but when I peel them they are nice and firm inside.

I really dislike very or over ripe bananas. I like them when they are bright yellow and firm. Prior to the Pandemic, I'd buy just two green bananas at a time, but now I do not want to risk exposure and frequent stores. So, I did an experiment. I purchased a bunch of 5 very green bananas and put them in the refrigerator for 2 days and followed this procedure:
1. I took out one banana and left it sit overnight on my kitchen counter in a basket/bowl
2. In the AM it was very ugly looking, but still very firm
3. I carefully removed the skin and discovered it was fine on the inside and tasted delicious
4. I did this each day until the last of the bunch was consumed.

I've used this procedure for the past three weeks.
So, Chiquita Banana was wrong!! You can put bananas in the refrigerator, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!

Stay safe & eat bananas!!

The reason bananas are not refrigerated is not because it harms them but because they turn black. Black bananas do not sell. It is purely a marketing thing.

I like an occasional bananana but my wife likes to eat green banananas (not completely green, but greener than I like them). So she buys green banananas and they are gone before they get to the point where I like them. I am going to have to put some in the refrigerator sometime, behind all the quasi-food that fills it so she won't see them.

PS: In the long distant past (probably pre-history) I read somewhere that banananas are at the peak of their nutritional value when they just start to get those black spots. By that point they have lost some of their firmness, but not to the point that they are really wimpy.

New Banana Song

I am Chiquita Banana and I'm very nice!
You can keep me fresh if you put me on ice.
Thaw me in the morning, a bit of heat will suffice,
And breakfast will never be a sacrifice!
Peel me once or you can peel me twice,
I'll always be a taste of Paradise!

I’ll give it an 8. Catchy lyrics, easy to dance to😊
