The sentiment seems to be that we need to get back to the way it was before this pandemic hit. Just remember that "the way it was" is why we’re in this predicament in the first place. And it seems to be that the assumption that such a horrible scourge would never again be released upon the world. Nature always has its ace in the hole. Humans need to realize how the game is played.

"the way it was" is NOT good enough! Maybe a bit more assistance to public healthcare and preparedness should be considered!?

I don't believe he wants to listen to reason. He is being forced to, kicking and tweeting, because bad news will affect the election.

For some strange reason every time I see Bill Gates I click on to see what he has to say.
He warned us twice about virus/disease in the past and for the most part was ignored.
Put nuclear arms on the back burner, disease may be our biggest problem in the future....

No it doesn't mean you should you should ignore the death toll. It does mean that Covid-19 number is VERY small compared to many other things that cause death - Stroke, Heart attack, other infectious diseases, murder, etc.

Indeed it may be worth noting the number of folks who die of other things because they can't get treatment for non-COVID issues.

The news media is doing us a bit of disservice by not putting thingsin perspective.

At present 0.017% of humanity has been infected with COVID-9. This means that 99.983% of humanity hat not yet be infected. (This number is likely a bit large as there are some unnoticed cases.) In contrast 0.77% of humanity dies each year from various causes. 0.22% die of other causes.

The economic issues need more attention. Hundreds of millions of people have been impacted negatively by government intervention. Perhaps 0.1% of the impacted folks will die. Unfortunately, government is slow and imprecise in rapidly changing situations. A country to watch is Sweden. Sweden has not locked down its economy. Remember that Sweden is a much smaller country than the US or Germany so use percentages and not absolute numbers. I understand Sweden has encouraged vulnerable people to stay home business is otherwise normal.

For those who feel they have not paid enough taxes and feel that government can use their money more wisely, IRS, State and local governments all take donations. Each will gladly accept your money.

I meant that 0.22% die of other infectious diseases.

The latter has certainly become the case in Italy where folks are definitely dying of many other things because COVID-19 is using up all of the available medical resources (many times over)!

This is a situation many of us have been thru before - not the medical type of shut down but the economic one that happens when an industry that supports an area shuts down and jobs and money disappears. Chicago is a big example - myself as a youngster I saw what happened when The Gold Mines in CA closed and we/Dad had to move 1,000 mile away to No ID where the Silver mines were still working - now 60 yrs later those mines are now closed - all but the Lucky Friday-check youtube fore Burke and Wallace ,ID - then there was the shutdown the the lumber industry of No. CA but those people were able to relocate, find new occupations and such -BUT not so today- we have family who are not working- school teachers and flight attendants and others in occupations that are not effected - fortunately my wife and I have secure retirement checks coming in.

My prayers go out to all that have negative consequences from this virus thing.

I agree. His Virus updates are really poorly concealed campaigning for his re-election at the American people's expense.

The issue is how long or when we will see a decline in the infection rate to a "controllable" level for everything to begin to return to a new 'normal'.

And the second part of this is, will we have a vaccine in quantity before the next return of Covid-19 and the return after that. This is potentially a long lasting weakening that is affecting the majority of the economy of our country and our health care systems. And, the experts that I have listened to tell us that it will return and return over time.

It all looks great when you just look at percentages. That is, in actuality, real people you are saying is irrelevant, not just a decimal point. You Trumpers are not watching or listening, just hating.

The definition of insanity is to keep repeating our actions and expect a different outcome. It is time for real change in this country starting by getti g the corporations and lobbiests OUT of our government and implementing real term limits on all public servants.

So sorry for your loss.
My journey with cancer is just starting.
Got surgery scheduled for the 24th.
Hope this Covid thing doesn’t change it.
