I don't do many waterfalls, but I know one of the decisions is: silky or sharp? So I thought I'd play around with a slow shutter speed on this Great Blue Heron with the gimpy leg in the roiling water below a small dam.

At 1/6th of a second, this was definitely out on the ragged edge of do-ability with my monopod/ wimberlyminigimbal setup. Used the Topaz AI plugin to sharpen the heron a bit.
Thoughts?

Silky is nice as a backdrop here, I like sharp if the falls are the main subject.

Great composition Marshall......love it
Heron is nice, but, sorry, I just can’t handle silky water. Never saw a squirrel with silky fur. I’m a hard care realist. Just throw me out with the trash.
I think you have a very special shot here. I like it a lot for a lot of reasons -- sharp heron, wonderful slow waterfall and turbulent slow water. It all comes together beautifully. I'm one of the few Hoggers who does not like milky waterfalls at all, but I like this one.
I generally like water shot as the eye sees it, but not in this case. The silky waterfall and waves are a perfect backdrop for the GBH, creating a very unique and beautiful photo.

What an interesting shot - I love it.
I’m not a fan of silky water either, but I think it works well here.
You lost nothing with the monopod. Great shot with great detail and the water is a great backdrop.
