Epson ET-3760 Ecotank is my second Ecotank model. I upgraded because this one does 2 sided printing. I have a Stylus Photo 1400 for larger prints, but for 8.5 x 11, I use the ET-3760 I find it hard to tell the difference in quality between the two.
I've used bulk ink tanks with other printers for years to save money on ink cartridges, but Ecotank is a much better system. You pay a little more for the printer initially, but in the long run they are much more economical.

I've used Epson printers since they were 8 pin dot matrix printers.(*1)
Currently use an all-in-one WF-3520. Had the same model in my last office before retiring for the last time.
The scanner works great and the printer has quality modes from ink-saver to very nice high quality.
Mine has been turned on, and never turned off, for at least a year. It gets used an average of every day and works every time, no clogs or color loses.
I'll replace it with the new Epson cartridge-less one if it ever dies.

*1 -can still remember the excitement when the 8pin was replaced with a 9pin head so that "j"'s could be right....

If you’re only printing, copying, scanning and don’t need color you might consider a laser printer which uses a toner cartridge instead of ink. The initial outlay will be more than an inkjet printer but the number of pages you’ll get far exceeds the inkjet. Epson makes a number of good ones. Check BestBuy or similar sites.

If you're not printing images, I can recommend the Xerox WorkCenter 6027. It's a color laser printer/all-in-one. I recently purchased one from Adorama for $165.00, shipping included. It's really a heavy duty workhorse. The only drawback...and it's a small one is the throughput time is a tad slow. If you scan or copy something it takes a long moment to start up. But once it starts to crank, it's fast and accurate. Eventually, the toner will have to be replaced, but that's cheaper than some of the inks I've had to buy over the years and the aftermarket brands bring that way down from the price of Xerox's own.

Mark,

Please let us know your final choice and the results of your quest....

thanks Larry

Will do, Larry. The only issue I face before choosing is the very infrequent use of a printer- hardly any. Consequently, the heads dry up which causes issues in printing.

I have a Canon printer that occasionally plugs up. The deep cleaning fails. On this model, the ink cartridge carrier is removable. A few minutes in a tray of water and a thorough rinse puts it back in service. It is at least 6 years old and still the best printer I have ever owned. I have tried several brands.

Go to Goodwill Tech store. Buy (really cheap) a Brother combined scanner/printer Laser toner. Buy your toner cartridgse off the internet. I have done so for years with no problems. Even if the toner does damage the printer, you can buy another printer cheap one

I promise not to rant but I would avoid Epson due to their predatory behavior regarding cartridges. For that reason alone I would avoid anything they manufacture.

Been using Brother Laser printers for years in my business. Low cost toner that does not dry out like ink. The all-in-one is on the 6th generation. Should sell for less than your budget. Does a good job with scanning, printing, fax and copying. My older model even handles multiple sheet document printing and 2 side printing as options.

I've a HP all-in-one for 18 years. I've replaced the separation pad and pickup roller twice (7.00 parts, 20 min. time). Inkjet all-in-ones are very inexpensive initially, but cost per page is at least 10x what a laser all-in-one will cost. And lasers can sit for ever without drying out and plugging up. Brother got around the plugged print head problem by waking the printer up every few days and pulling a bit of ink through the head. But that wastes ink.

But if you require color printouts, then inkjet is probably the way to go.

If you don't need color, get a laser printer. Much cheaper per page. I have had two Brother printers and they have been reliable. My latest is an all in one DCPL 2550DW. It even prints duplex, copies singe sheet or feeder, scan, wifi printing. Has worked well for >2 yrs. Model No. probably changed. Watch for a sale on Amazon. Stick with original equioment cartridges for clean copy.

Color documents are preferred (occasionally). The cost of ink is not an issue - I don't print very often.

Printing as rarely as you do I don't think I would want a printer with tanks.

That is exactly why I do want a printer with tanks... Got tired of replacing cartridges that would dry up... I have one of the early ecotank printers by epson... had it since they came out... Have only had to clean the heads one time... I do not print alot but i want it available when the time comes... So from my standpoint i will stick with the tanks....
