Here's another example.
--Bob

Years ago there was a commercial for a supermarket (I forget which) showing a family pulled up to a farmer's stand, looking at the empty baskets on the table with the sign "Fresh Corn". The fields of corn being in the background, the farmer beckons to his wife. He gives her one of the empty baskets, telling her to go to a crib in the back for a refill. Camera follows her trip through the cornfield, across a street and into the supermarket. She buys the ears to fill the basket. Then she is shown reentering the stand to the happy delight of all, handing the full basket to the family. "Fresh from the farm!"

Also there were those commercials for Volkswagen showing the interior of a u-boat, the kapitan lowering the periscope. The shot moved to the "exterior" showing the car (Beetle) pulling out of water onto the sandy beach. Moments later, the kapitan and some crew are shown getting out of the car.

Sometimes the best picture of "stupid" is in the mirror.

There are some that do descend to "Inane".

Spaghetti does not grow in Paddy fields. Everyone knows that! How stupid! Everyone (I thought) knew that is where we get Irish men!

While the stupidity of many of our fellow Americans may be all too obvious, don't get too depressed. Every nation has its idiots. Stupidity knows no borders. Europe's handling of the Corona virus is an excellent illustration. Just stick your head in the sand until it is too late. Italy is a very sad example and the rest of Europe is not far behind.

Canada is just as stupid. 60,000 people flying in today!!!!

I can relate. When I was a boy we raised chickens. Some relatives from a nearby city came to visit one Sunday afternoon, and one of my grandmother’s cousins wanted to get some fresh eggs. She asked her cousin, who was with them, if she wanted some fresh eggs, too. Her reply was that she got her eggs from the store, not the ones that came from chickens. My grandmother scolded me for laughing. I swear it’s a true story.

They do have those that are plastic and vended by the machines at the entries. (In some regions, they require three quarters!)

Mandy's comment is perhaps an ironic comment on the modern world's separation from the reality of life... the association of the magic of the retail vs the source. I grew up in a time when there were cows, chickens, and gardens with veggies. After retirement I taught for 3 years full-time 9th grade... i was amazed of how ignorant the students were of the real world. Many lived in an on-TV storybook world !
