The census is supposed to be as of April 1st. There is no way possible to do this, just answer your form for what exists on the day you fill it out.

So whether, home is owned, mortgage, etc is not personal and has nothing to do with “finances”? Gee?? It certainly has nothing to do with the real function of the census question: How many United States Citizens live at that address?

The information is totally confidential. Everyone at Census takes an oath not to reveal or use anyone’s individual personally identifiable information. The privacy restriction is for 76 years. Penalty for violating the oath is severe.

The census counts every PERSON living at every address. That’s everyone, regardless of citizenship.

The Census serves governments (federal, state, county, city) with demographics and statistics used to distribute federal and state funds that pay for roads, schools, libraries, and various government agencies.

The census is also used to adjust representation in the US House, to account for population migration. States use it for similar reasons, as well as where to locate schools, fire stations, post offices, libraries...

Businesses rely on various Census statistics to find their target markets, place stores, and anticipate growth trends.

It’s required by the Constitution.

BTW, I worked for the 2010 Census going around to people who didn't mail in the form. Some of those jerks could be real A**H***s.

I too worked the 2010 here in semi-rural Texas. Mostly had a ball meeting and talking to the people. Howevah, a few could be a bit difficult, especially one guy who met me at his gate at the highway with a side-arm strapped on. He told me not to come on his property. I DIDN'T! Just went on to the next contact. I suppose I listed him as non-responsive, but did mention the weapon in a note. Never heard anything more. Still had a lot of fun.

This year’s NRFU (non-response followup) enumerator surveys are conducted on Government iPhones. Every enumerator will have instant access to geolocation, maps, camera, phone, emergency 911 response, and a team of supervisors, along with a smart database that guides them through the process and tracks their performance. It even handles time and expense reporting.

I will wait for them to send me the questionnaire form instead exposing my personal information on line to let the scammer to steal, even on the government site. As the instruction said they will send the form after a few week with out my respond on line. For my safety, I wait!

I was looking for a write-in field where I would have could have said:

"Even though you didn't ask, I am a USA citizen."

"Easy Peasy"

Like you, done in less than 5 minutes; and not invasive at all.

I did get a second notification in the mail on Monday (3/16/20). I guess it was a follow up. It had the same ID code as the first.

Ditto.

For the census, it’s irrelevant.

What matters is how many *people* live there, and their basic demographics.

It’s an automated reminder. Just ignore the second mailing if you already answered.

How can I do it online? I live in NY, but I’m trapped in our condo in Florida & can’t get my snail mail.

If you have access to a device which you do or you wouldn't be on here, open a new email account and do it there.

When I lived and worked in Australia, I participated in their census. One of the questions was are you a citizen of Australia? If not, the next question was what country are you a citizen of. No one gave it a second thought. Here in the US, it is a major political talking point if you ask the citizenship of someone that's living in the country. Down under, no one seemed to care, it was just a demographic question. Kind of like there's no hyphenated nationalities like there is here. You were either Australian or you were from some other country. A good friend of mine was an Australian citizen but was from Canada. He was Australian, not Canadian-Australian.

I just received the same notice to complete the census online and I have the same issue. The notice says the Census Bureau is using "the Internet to securely collect your information." Kind of an oxymoron of a sentence. What information are they asking for and is it personal enough you wouldn't want it made public? I hesitate to start the questionnaire and then quit, midstream, because that will raise a flag.

I took it yesterday. It’s benign. There’s nothing there that most private marketers don’t already know about you.

In fact, UHH probably has more information about us than they are asking for on the census.

The most personal information that I recall was if you own your home mortgage free or do you have a mortgage. Nothing about citizenship, income, etc.
