You can change the format to jpg. I think it’s in your picture settings.

I have an iPhone 10XR. You have to make sure that Settings will convert transferred files to JPEG. This may be different for each model of iPhone. Then with my Windows 10 PC, I plug the iPhone into the USB port and wait for the iPhone to ask if I want to let the computer access it, and select yes. From there you can use File Explorer to access the iPhone and copy your photos to your PC. I don’t use the Windows default of Photos to do this.

There is an app called PhotoSync. Download it onto your iPhone and then your iMac. You start the app on your computer first and then start it on your iPhone. It is very easy to use. All you do is select the images you want to download from your iPhone and then select the iMac as the target and viola.... I use this all the time and it really goes very fast. It doesn't take hardly anytime to download 10 images, before I can hardly notice.

Viola? How about "voila"? At least you didn't say "walla" For that I'm thankful.
Don't take it seriously, I'm just kidding around. I'm sure it was just a typo.

Hello Friends,
I recently upgraded to an iPhone 11 from my iPhone 6. With my 6 I could plug it into my windows pc windows 8 and I could see the drive and pull them onto a folder on my computer. Yesterday I had to plug them into a mac and airdrop 280 photos which took a lot of time. I then moved them to a flash drive then onto my pc. I have tried Itunes and the cloud and don't have much luck either. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Mick

I use an app called Photo Transfer. It uses wifi and the app is on both the phone and the PC.

HEIC is good.

Start Here.

Then there is the bit about 16 bit color.

Hope this answer some of your questions.

This program is on a mac. Works like a dream. It does leave images in heic format or jpg whatever the phone is set for.

I think heic is better:
better compression
16 - bit color depth.

I have the IPhone XR, which is probably running the same OS as your phone, and it seems to transfer fine when I plug a usb cord to it and to my PC. I noticed that in settings>photos, at the bottom of the control panel you can choose to either keep the photo in original format, or make it automatically compatible for PC or Mac. Check that option and see if it is set for automatic compatible.

I suggest contacting Apple Support for guidance. They're GREAT!

Is that with a PC/Windows computer? I've used Airdrop to transfer multiple photos to my Mac and have never had it change the file format. I do multiples also without much trouble (I'm not trying to "brag" ... just wanted to weigh in with another user experience).

I have Win 10 and an i-phone 8. When I plug it in I only get the apple music home screen and can't find a folder for my pictures on the i-phone. I want to download them, clean up and recopy the finished ones back to the i-phone. Any help on this?
Thanks.

I don't know if this information will apply to your iPhone 8, but am guessing it might be similar. (I'll poke around a little more)... did you read this one already?

Here's a video from 2017 with instructions... maybe it will be more applicable to your setup? (Sorry about the music.) :-P

i have an 11 and no issues at all. move to my macbook pro with the camera capture utility instead of photos. (photos works-- just used to moving them to a folder instead of to photos) --i shoot with the 11 more than i ever had shot with a phone. amazing for a phone. i bought a "Y disk" ?? drive from amazon. it has a lightning plug that slides out of one end and if you slide in the other direction a USB plug. works like a champ. i think it's 64 gb and it wasn't really much more than a sandisk drive of the same size.

My android phone can take RAW photos. Iphone probably can too. Check your iphone camera settings. Maybe raw files will work.

This is a true statement. After seeing this topic last night I immediately went to my "Settings", scrolled down to "Photos", then scrolled down to bottom where you are offered a choice to "Transfer to Mac or PC", where you can select either "Automatic" (automatically change to jpg when transferring to computer) or "Keep Originals" if you wish to keep the new iPhone format. Mine was already set for Automatic so that explains why my photos were useable on my PC.
