I think your hair splitting is lost on most sensible people. This is yet another example of how Trumpeters tie themselves into pretzels trying to justify a remark from Trump that he himself probably intended to be taken exactly as most people took it.

But even your Snopes defence of your position was cherry-picked. This is also from the Snopes article:

"In context, Trump did not say in the passage above that the virus itself was a hoax. He instead said that Democrats’ criticism of his administration’s response to it was a hoax."

That statement from Trump is itself false, because there is no hoax in the Democrats' criticism -- the criticism is very real.
