This is exactly what is wrong with America today. This devisive crap permeates everything, and it is so mean spirited. Here we are in a crisis when we all need to pull together, put politics aside and just work toward a common purpose and mutual well being and caring for each other, but instead, we have this partisan drivel. Everything has to be a contest with winners and losers rather than just what is right and just. We need to behave the way we did in WW2 - one country, one purpose, one direction, and forget this i’m completely right, and you’re completely wrong grade school mentality and grow up for God’s sake.

End of rant.

Giant, a supermarket chain, announced that they will be closing from midnight to 6am as opposed to being open 24 hours. They said they will use those six hours for cleaning and restocking the shelves. I guess in areas where people are going nuts it's impossible to stock the shelves while open. Another store said they don't expect any issues near term in getting product.

Our largest supermarket chains, Kroger, HEB, Walmart and Randalls here in Houston are all limiting hours in order to clean and restock.

So the panic is serving a purpose.
The supermarket shelves are emptied by the customers so the market has the opportunity to sanitize the shelves.

Probably until a customer touches it.
But it provides a sanitized platform for the product until someone moves it around.

What is actually sad and scarey for the future of our country is that some number of people here actually believe that this whole epidemic has been engineered or inflated to harm the president’s reelection. Seriously? You actually believe that the stock market drops have been orchestrated by the media? Somehow you ignore the fact the the large percentage of the moves are done by computerized trading or professional money managers, or that there really has been a disruption in the China-US trade that will continue into the foreseeable future, or that the market was due for a correction.

And how then do you explain the reaction of other countries and their efforts to manage it? Do you think Italy’s death toll has anything to do with American politics? Do you think that Republican state officials and governors who take action such as shutting schools do so for political reasons?

Certainly the news media heavily reports ANY perceived crisis - that is the result of a CNN/FOX/MSNBC - type 24 hour news cycle - whatever is in the news will be continuously reported 24x7. And realistically, although government didn’t create the crisis, they have a great deal of responsibility as to how it has been prepared for, reported to the citizens, and managed, so they ARE accountable and should be asked hard questions, and when inconvenient questions are ignored or termed “nasty” by the president, then yes, there will be some fall out.

Guys and Gals, let’s forget politics for awhile, let’s leave it out of our Corona virus discussions, and concentrate instead on staying well and protecting/assisting those that need it most, and yes, runs in toilet paper are silly and panic buying just makes life tough for everyone. There is a difference between being prepared for contingencies and just acting out of panic.
