Nice work,Phil! I've really been looking for the red tailed but not many around here....thanks for sharing!

Thanks Vic. My bird books make a thing about the difference between East coast Red-shouldered and the west coast ver. Yours's have a much greater range but they don't get west of the great basin. I am interested in seeing photos that might show the difference. Good hunting!

Thanks Vic, nice work! The second shot shows great under-wing detail, downloaded and saved for future reference. The Sibley guide even makes distinctions between the California, Eastern and Florida verieties of these handsome birds. More to learn....

Excellent shots, Phil! If you hadn’t mentioned the miss-spelling I would not have noticed it.

When would you say it's too late to go? April still good? May? Obviously too hot in the summer, and no ducks, though I believe more shore birds.

There is usually a significant part of the waterfowl migration still around through March and this time of the year some interesting wading birds can show up. Over the years I have visited in every month and there is always something interesting but much depends on rainfall and water allocations.

Red-shouldered hawks were as numerous as Red-tails this migratory season. These are some of my favorites. This set ranges from juveniles to breeding adults.

Nice set Phil
