Thank you for the insight. Can you please expand on your last statement? I am, for lack of better terms, I am an amateur hobbyist that is not familiar with some of those terms. Thank you again!

Edit: I just saw your edited post

In this section we are restricted to one image per thread; I shall send you a copy of your image with overlays of the lines and grid to which I refer.

Hey all,
I normally post in the Photo Gallery and open up to comments and critiques, but I figured I would get a more focused effort here. ...

It's a super image.

The only correction I suggest is leveling the horizon. It doesn't need any additional cropping.

What a shame that you couldn't share it with us. I will PM the originator and hope that he will share it with me as I too have a Pier photo that is worthy of a little adjustment.

Dave,
Thank you again for the PM with the visual explanation. I did forward those notes on to Heather as they were very helpful!

Scotty,
Thanks for the suggestion. Now that you mention it, I didn't get it quite right!

Super nice in composition, mood, and in concept. The "extra space" mentioned doesn't bother me, but what does is that splotch of blue paint (tag). I know, I know--a bit OCD--but to me it is distracting and doesn't add authenticity or place or any such other. I love this photo regardless. Thanks.

I appreciate the feedback. I knew the graffiti was going to come up at some point and you are 100% correct that it is out of place and may be a distraction. I decided to leave it in because it is now part of the scenery, as grotesque as it may be

Cheers!

I go through that thinking fairly frequently: image what is actually there or image as I want it to appear. Rarely am I "historically documenting" a scene in that I am not doing forensic analyses, so I usually modify as needed to render how I want it to look. If a tree branch "just out" of a model's head, it's gone (the branch, that is :-). I don't give it a second thought. But I know there is a school of "realism" photographers who feel that altering the scene's content is verboten. Anyway, I still like your photo.

Gosh, for a minute you had me worried about the model's head.

Good strong simple image well exposed and nicely composed. As it such a simple, yet effective image, three very small things did pop out to me. The blue whatever (as mentioned by someone else), scuffs in the sand (easily repaired) and the small canon-like object mid-pier. As everything else is spot on, these caught my eye. This is a fabulous image though... one to be proud of.

I agree. I am not a purist when it comes to alterations and I can certainly appreciate the need for minor (or major ) alterations for commercial uses or personal satisfaction. Please do not think I was discounting your critique or advise, I do appreciate it and if I decided to print it out, that will be one my considerations!

Thanks for the recommendations Paul!

That canon-like object is a pair of those pay-to-view binoculars.

It's absolutely lovely for all the reasons that Dave and RG have said. The light, the color and the composition all come together for a very pleasing image.
