I was out for some exercise on a beautiful Michigan winter late afternoon, the feel of the impending Spring was in the air. I stopped now and then for a shot, when I saw the reflection of the trees in the puddles on the water. Capturing the sun bursting through the trees and the reflections, made for a nice composition. Converting it to B&W, seemed to really bring it to life. What do you think?

I like it in black and white most, also.

I prefer shot no. 2, but they're both good.

I do like the B&W better than the color image. Probably because the color in the second image is so subdued, why not go completely gray scale anyway and add some contrast to add some pop to the scene.

I prefer what the eye takes in on this photo (color)

Going to go with the black and white. Slightly more dramatic then the color, which looks a little dull.

When you can see "color" in a black & white you've made a great shot. MANY KUDOS!
Years ago when I would go on photo treks, I would always take 4 or 5 rolls, way back when, of b&w film to sharpen my eye so my color and b&w would come out and amazing. It really works. Love your shot, seems to get all 7 zones Ansel would get in his photos.

Being mostly a black and white photographer, my preference is the first. However, I think the photograph needs a bit more contrast to make it really work well.

I am agreeing with all advising more contrast and are making adjustments accordingly. I have increased it in this one, would you advise more yet? What areas would you doge/burn?

Definitely. As many others I see around here, color adds nothing.
Great view and composition.

I sent you one idea in a private message. I started with your color image, then used Nik Silver Efex with a high contrast pre-set and a blue filter, which whitens anything blue even further. I did some levels adjustments to further blacken the blacks and whiten the whites, and selective dodging on snow, closest house and the lighter parts of the tree reflection in the road.

It may be too dramatic for you, but seemed worth exploring

B&W for me. The color shot is ho hum winter hanging on. The B&W is much more dynamic.

Love the b and w better but both are nice! I’ve becoming a big fan of BnW and only have an iPhone 7+ but I use several post editing apps to play with to enhance to my liking. Love making B and W pics of my only granddaughter—have to catch her unaware bc she doesn’t like her pic being taken! Lol. Here are a couple of shots—appreciate thought and suggestions.
