Being mostly a black and white photographer, my preference is the first. However, I think the photograph needs a bit more contrast to make it really work well.

I was out for some exercise on a beautiful Michigan winter late afternoon, the feel of the impending Spring was in the air. I stopped now and then for a shot, when I saw the reflection of the trees in the puddles on the water. Capturing the sun bursting through the trees and the reflections, made for a nice composition. Converting it to B&W, seemed to really bring it to life. What do you think?

B&W all the way for me. They are both good, but my pick has more going for it.

I prefer the B&W. I like to shoot “reflection “ shots too and I wonder what this would have looked like it f taken when the sun had moved behind the tree.

For me, the street pops a little more in the color version.

Very nice! The reason I often like B&W is because it puts more attention on the subject instead of on the colors.

If it were mine I would cut down its brightness and increase contrast. Black and white my choice.

I like the little hint of color, though I'm in the minority it appears.

I agree, the B&W is more dramatic of the two examples.

B&W. Perfect scene for mono and the blue sky distracts from the subject (the trees and their reflection).

Definitely b&w-it has much more impact.

It’s a nice rendition but a low contrast scene doesn’t always make for a good B&W composition. There are most of other factors to consider like contrast, contrast, and more contrast, and subject of course.

Maybe because of so little color contrast?

I agree
