I keep seeing mention of getting dedicated noise reduction software to reduce noise in a photo. I would like some recommendations on which software one should look into. Is it better than what is offered in adobe photoshop. All input is greatly appreciated.
Topaz Denoise AI - works great.
Lightroom is quite good and you already own it. You can control luminance and color noise and micro adjust to regain detail and contrast.
Paul,
I re-read your noise post. Very good!

Thank you Bill! Your reference to the OP's Lightroom reminded me to remind everyone of some ideas of using LR as the first line of defense on noise, many times the only tool needed.

I have Topaz but it is not that much better than what I also have in Photoshop.
I also use Topaz DeNoise AI and find it very effective. However, it is relatively slow because of the processing power required. From the Topaz literature, it seems that the added capacity is needed in the video card, something that is not upgradeable in your tropical laptop. YMMV. It seems to run faster, and more conveniently, when used as a plug-in to LR rather than a standalone program. Anyway, the processing time is not so bad and worth the wait.
Topaz DeNoise AI is awesome!!! Also Topaz Sharpen.

Yes, 99% of the time LR does everything I need. but on those rare occasions I need more, Topaz Denoise AI can work wonders.

I too kept hearing about how good the new Topaz noise reduction (AI) program was so I downloaded a trial. It does a pretty good job but it isn't as magical as the ads make it appear. I will keep working with it through the trial to see if I can learn ways to make it work better for me before I decide to buy it. It is kinda slow on my computer which admittedly is middle-aged in computer years, though fairly well outfitted.
I have for years used NIK Dfine, which does just about that well and creates less artifacts. You can buy it as a part of DXO's NIK suite, or you can download the old version free from DXO. I'm still using the old free version and may just stick with it. I hate artifacts.
