I just purchased the RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. RICOH GR III three months ago. Great little guy for travel and street photography. Dosnt look like a camera and support er small. Fits in my jeans pocket. The photos are exceptional. I would buy again with no hesitations.

Thank you, I was wondering about this camera also.

Many members have suggested the Canon G9x Mark II or Canon G7X Mark II. I have had my G9X Mark II for several months now and am consistently amazed what it can do. Compare the two and I found the cheaper G9X Mark II does everything I want and is about $150 less than the G9X. I didn't feel I needed the flip screen and the 1" sensor is wonderful. I doubt there is another camera with the same features including raw, 1" sensor etc that is as small as the G9X Mark II. It literally fits in my shirt pocket. I am further impressed that CHG_CANON also has one and speaks highly of it. His knowledge on this forum is highly respected.

Thanks for your input hj. CHG_CANON swings a lot of weight with me here as well.

I chose the Canon G7X II over the G9X II for the longer zoom range, although it isn't super long. It's a bit larger but still fits in a pocket.

I’m looking for a pocket or belt pouch sized camera to replace/complement a Canon bridge camera and DSLR to use for more convenient picture taking while traveling. I’m tired of lugging the bigger ones around.
I’ve looked at:
Canon G5x, G7x, G9x;
Sony hx99, RX100 VII
Panasonic ZS70, ZS80, ZS100, ZS200.
I’ve researched until my brain is tired and confused, and I’m wondering if any of you have some real life experience with any of these with recommendations. Most of my travel pictures are taken outside and I’d prefer a decent optical zoom, 1” sensor, raw capability etc. but I’m open to any good options. Budget can expand for the right camera.

I really like my G1X III.

One important note: Having a viewfinder can be a boon outside on a sunny day. This disqualifies (in my book) many of the Canon offerings.

I love my g7x ll. I even bought an underwater housing for diving. Great pics.

That is exactly why my final two candidates were the Sony RX100 VII and the Canon G5X Mk II (as previously noted, I bought the G5X).

The older Canon cameras {like my SD1000 Elph} did have a viewfinder.

Agree. I use my viewfinder nearly all the time. Only time I use the screen is when my eye can't reach the viewfinder, such as overhead shots in a crowd, close to ground, even shooting around a corner. And why the screen must be fully articulated.

I like folding the screen down when close to the ground so I don’t have to lie down on the ground. There are times when it does come in handy.

Better image quality with the better compact cameras, including better low light performance, a viewfinder, optical zoom, more control. It's a camera, not a phone with a camera. My wife gets very good photos with her iPhone X, but not as good as I get with my Canon G5X Mk II. I consider the iPhone (or Android) as very much a backup to a "real" camera.

Thank you; answers it for me; I probably use my iphone too much as carrying my Nikon 7100 around is a bit much but when I go out to get photos I sure can't beet my Nikon

Apparently the latest smart phones are built around the camera .... and even carrier {Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc} advertising is more about that than about calling or texting, so this may not be a fair characterization.

For me, this is fair: my iPhone 7 has the ability to capture images but printing them bigger than 4”X6” is a waste of time and money. Even at this small print size, the prints out of my Canon sx50 and Canon 7D have more depth, clarity, contrast, and richness of color. I routinely blow up images to 11”X14” and sometimes even 16”X20”; I frame them, then hang them or give them away. I could never do that with my cellphone images.
