Good morning fellow Hoggers,
I have a nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 that needs some attention. When I record using that lens, you can hear a thumping sound when the lens auto focuses. The noise doesn't seem to affect the sharpness of the focus; however, that noise is recorded and it's horrible when reviewing your recording and listening to that constant thumping. Any suggestions for a repair facility that you guys trust?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Try turning both the VR and autofocus off. Most lenses for photography are NOT designed for use in video production because of the noise that is picked up by the built in mic. So you have three or four options. Turn all the things off that might make noise from your lens; buy a lens that is designed for video recording; buy external audio recording equipment and turn off the internal mic then dub the video and audio; buy a video camera and stop using a DSLR for video.
There are probably more options like trying a noise cancelling boom mic NOT mounted to your hot shoe but like I said, your 70-200 lens is not a video lens, it's a photography lens.
