Good morning fellow Hoggers,

I have a nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 that needs some attention. When I record using that lens, you can hear a thumping sound when the lens auto focuses. The noise doesn't seem to affect the sharpness of the focus; however, that noise is recorded and it's horrible when reviewing your recording and listening to that constant thumping. Any suggestions for a repair facility that you guys trust?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Your location is blocked, but one of the two Nikon USA repair centers in Los Angeles, CA or Melville, NY.

Search your area for a camera repair shop. Here in Sacramento, we have California Precision Service. I just took my old Nikkor 80-200mm in for an estimate. The focusing motor was extremely loud and front lens element is slightly loose. Total cost for repair $340.

Try it with VR turned off. You are likely hearing the VR motor engage and disengage

My location states Northeast Ct. I use UPS or FEDX, so the location doesn't matter to me. I use Melville.

Yes, Nikon is the best choice for a Nikon repair.

My friend, Al, told me this just last Sunday. He works for a medical imaging supplier. Back when one of the companies they represent used Hasselblad cameras as part of their equipment. When they had any problems they sent the cameras to Hasselblad USA. Then they found that Hasselblad was sending them to a guy in Valley Center, KS just north of Wichita (where Al is based). The guy running a one man shop was THE expert on Hasselblad cameras. They got faster service and saved shipping by going straight to the source. Al said he was a great guy to deal with and gave them many good tips on the cameras that no one else did.
My point? Don't forget the local guys when you go looking for service. You might save some money and maybe even make a new friend.

Rick

I lived in Houston for 34 yrs and have used a repair shop ( Houston Camera Repair??) on Richmond, just east of 610. Just past a cajun sandwich shop, left side. Good luck.
