I got my 500 from District Camera out in Burke, VA (or that area) very quickly, a year or so ago. Good shop/good staff/good ownership. Very customer-oriented shop.

No - haven’t tried it with the extender ...but have heard the same thing from others.

The 500PF is not on Nikon's compatibility list for any of their teleconverters. I guess you inadvertently proved it. Sorry.

I drool when thinking about that lens (especially when reading . I'm still lugging around my 200-500 with my D850. I love that lens, but it gets very heavy by the end of the day.

Hope you can get the 500 PF down the line. The 200-500 was my prime wildlife and nature lens for a couple of years and I got several excellent photos with that lens.

But the 500 PF is in a whole different league. Pricy - but my percentage of keepers skyrocketed with it. As in 3 times more tack sharp keepers.

This may have been discussed many times here already - but I wanted to share my experience with the Nikon 500mm f/5.6 PF lens for birds in flight.

Four word recap:

Best ever wildlife lens.

Now, that’s my personal assessment. But it’s based on thousands of photos over the last six months. It has extremely fast subject acquisition and is terrific in all types of lighting situations when coupled with the Nikon D850.

And it is particularly good at capturing birds in flight in relatively low light.

I have gotten more keepers and potential wall hangers with this lens in six months than I have gotten in six years with other Nikon lenses.

Here’s one from yesterday. I had one shot as this crested caracara lifted off on a gloomy and overcast day.

One shot and the lens delivered once again.
This may have been discussed many times here alrea... (show quote)

Nice shot
