In the 707 days of air travel, it was said in some of the photozines of the era that high-frequency vibrations unique to jet aircraft could loosen screws, and do other mysterious things to camera equipment. It didn't seem to be a problem with reciprocating engines. Truth, or Urban Legend?
Is it a problem today?
Just in case, I wrap my equipment in as much vibration dampening stuff...socks, sweatshirts, etc. as I can.

I do know that cameras that travel across the country on freight trains, sometimes arrive with loose screws, etc.

I don't think so. Too many people fly with cameras and you've never heard about it I doubt it happens, with all the official government people, military people, news media, everybody that flies with cameras and you've never heard of it. It don't happen.
I see we are already on page 4 but I submit that if the story was true then why isn't the aircraft falling apart while flying? Surely the said vibrations would affect those screws as well.

Everybody is wrong. This is a real problem, but it was solved a long time ago. Just wrap your camera in aluminium foil. This solution also has the added benefit of increasing the number of channels your camera can receive!
The loose screws on flights have usually had too much to drink . . . but their cameras are probably fine.
Now should I not put my back pack only on a seat of my car as the vibration of my car, ok. Oh, but if I have to stop ti might fall off the seat. I'm staying home.

Haven't even heard about it. Probably too busy watching old Johnny Mack Brown and Buck Rogers films.
