I’ve posted several shots of this raptor. He’s absolutely gorgeous and sits frequently in an accessible spot for photographers. Today he left his perch and instead of fishing for dinner, he drank deeply of the Goleta slough water, then flew back to the tree. I’m completely mesmerized by him, and was completely unprepared for him flying back to me! I never get tired of photographing him. Hope you enjoy. Download for details as the slough water is dripping off his coat in flight.

Great shots of the flight at you.

I don't know how to load images onto HH.

I want to know how you bribed that osprey to fly right at you. Not very often raptors participate in a foto shoot, am i right?

Honestly, he was perched in a tree for the longest time, gazing at the slough water. I was 10-15 yards from the tree. He then went to get a drink and I went closer to his tree thinking he might catch a fish. He simply flew back to his tree, and I was almost under it! So it looked like he was coming at me but you can see his eyes are trained on the upper tree branch. He looked huge in my viewfinder and I almost stumbled, thinking he was coming straight at me!

Lucky!

Thanks Dennis, but you know it was luck! That osprey is almost always there, right by the restaurant!
This was the best of today’s shoot......my second favorite bird, cedar waxwing!
