The email that I received only asked that I verify my profile by April 1. My understanding is that you must have a Lowe's account to purchase online but not at the store. Also you be registered with Lowe's as an active military member or honorably discharged veteran.

I am retired military (Army) and I registered my "myLowes" card and I show it at the check out and get my 10% discount. I do not have a Lowes credit card. At ACE hardware and Home Depot I show my retired military ID at check out and the 10% discount.

But the OP of this says that will no longer be the case until you apply and get approved for a Lowes CC.

Yes, that is what the OP said. The OP is mistaken. You do NOT have to apply or be approved for a Lowe's credit card. You only need to have a MyLowe's account and fulfill the service requirement. If you already have a MyLowe's account, all you need to do is confirm and correct your profile, if necessary.

I went to Lowes about 6 months ago expecting to just show my Vet ID and get the 10% like at HD. But NO! I had to go to the customer service counter and give them ID, show them my Vet ID, fill something out, wait for them to enter me in their computer, and then get reimbursed the 10% back to my card. Come on Lowes, you can do better than that.

Look, they want to verify that you really are a vet. Even the FedGov has verification policies. It took me several tries to get lined up with the proper ID to be able to prove my disability was Service Connected so I can now shop on base at the PXs'. Don't trash Lowes for wanting to verify you. They have LOTS of scammers who try to get that discount.

A HD employee, a vet, said that HD does not advertise the military discount but gives it when asked.

That’s been my experience as well. Just ask at checkout and show ID.

Woke up this morning to an email from Lowe’s announcing a new policy re the 10% military/veteran purchase discount. As of April 1 (interesting choice of date), to receive the discount the veteran must have opened a Lowe’s credit card account and added requested mil/vet info. Sound familiar? I’ll bet this is designed to offset the 10% by banking on a percentage of vets maintaining a credit balance and paying a monthly balance on Lowe’s card vice Visa or other mainstream cc.
For me, I will simply drive about two blocks further up the road from Lowe’s and make a right turn to HD. HD, so far, only asks for an ID to receive the discount. I will use Lowe’s in lieu of HD if HD does not have the product I want; and then the can keep the 10%. With the new policy, I wonder if the cc will be required to be used to obtain the discount.

You’re getting beat up pretty badly on this...and those folks are right. You just have to register with Lowe’s, you DO NOT have to have a Lowe’s credit card.

Not a big deal
. "All military personnel and veterans are eligible for a 10% discount at all The Home Depot store locations during national holidays such as Memorial Day, July 4th and Veterans Day.
The 10% discount is available to active and reserve military personnel, retired or disabled veterans and their spouses or dependent children, every day, upon request."
Lowes is every day for veterans. Your choice.

WOW!!!! I hope you were not too traumatized by that terrible ordeal.
Remember, you chose to get the 10% discount. That is their process. You could have spared yourself this overwhelming experience by walking out.

I have been using the Lowe’s vet discount for couple of years now.
I buy enough in a years time, but don’t keep track of totals, but it does add up.
Once they get you coded into the computer, at check out, they ask for phone number,
And the discount is automatically taken
Don’t know how I feel about the new policy.
I only use one bank card, and it gets paid off every month.
I guess I will get the Lowe’s card to get the discount, but I will never have a carryover balance!

Here in Pasadena Tx, I’ve been getting a 10% discount from Lowe’s and HD for at least 2 years, maybe longer. When registering I had to show retired military ID and give my phone number, that is how I am looked up in their cash register when checking out. Sure offsets the 8% tax
BTW I do not have a Lowe’s credit card

What a commotion over discount. Home Depot has never said a word about discounts but I still shop there. Lowes sent out Notices for their Veterans discounts. No credit card required, Just a My Lowes account. I have saved Hundreds of dollars in discounts there. Lowes also has Veterans parking spots and employees that were Vets were special vests.
It is your choice where to shop. I don't beg for a discount. If it is offered, I may decide to use it on Larger purchases.
My understanding is that many people were actually cheating to get the discount. That is when they decided to have a my Lowes account and to show any id at the check out.
So quit whining and bad mouthing things you know nothing about.

Lowes. Give the cashier my phone number. Show my VA ID card and discount applied. Yes, a registration was required so they could verify my status. It is a way to minimize fraud.

Thanks for the info. Just went to lowes.com and signed up for a "My Lowes" account. Only took a minute. To be eligible for the military discount they just ask a few questions like birthdate, what branch of service, and discharge date. They evidently use a third-party that verifies your service. After you are vetted, you only have to give your phone number at checkout to receive the discount. Online purchases will automatically receive the discount. No credit card involved!

I got the same email but it does not mention or say one word about the Lowe's credit card. It does say the veteran must be registered with a Lowe's online account but that is only an online registration, not a credit card. As for HD, they and Lowe's carry pretty much the same things, but I have not found a Home Depot store in the Houston area that offers any kind of a military discount. I am not saying that there are no stores that offer it, just saying that I have not found one.

Have you asked? I just got a 10% discount at our HD for the purchase of $400 for porcelain tile.
