I'm looking at buying one or the other of these 2 bodies. Prices of refurb. models are very close and each model has something I like. The tilt screen, better processor and large buffer are a big + on the D7500 but, the available battery grip, battery life and 2 SD slots are features I like on the D7200. Can UHH Nikon users add input that could tip the scale either way? Thanks!

I’m a Nikon shooter, and I chose the D7200. Not too long after that, I was considering a second upgrade because the buffer in the D7200 was filling up way too fast. This time I was comparing the D500 to the D7500. I’m primarily a wildlife shooter who takes “once in a lifetime” trips. My choice was the D500 over the D7500 due to 2 card slots (in the D500 vs the single slot in the D7500). So - if a larger buffer is more important than 2 card slots, get the D7500. If the reverse is true, and 2 card slots are more important, go with the D7200. After all was said and done, the importance of 2 card slots was what caused the D500 to win out over the D500.

On second thought, why not consider a D500 and have the best of both worlds? BTW, I still have, love, and use my D7200.

Right now, you can get a refurbished D7500 from B&H Photo Shop for $599, with a 90 day warranty. And the same warranty for a refurbished D7200 from B&H for $694. Because of the popularity of two SD card slots, in the D7200, is probably why the refurbished D7200 has a higher price than the D7500. The D7500 has only one SD card slot. Google D7200 vs D7500, and you'll see the differences in the specs of each camera. You can't go wrong with either camera. Good luck.

I prefer my D5600 over either. I hated Nikon’s unlighted button/unreadable green screen on both my D7000 and D800.

I think the D7500 gives you a touch screen. Hopefully they made the camera controls through it (info screen) like the D5600 and my Z6. It is a much better approach...especially if you work in dim light or need reading glasses for small print.

I prefer my D5600 over my Z6.

Might consider Z50.

I know you’re considering the D7200 and the D7500, but if your budget can accommodate it, I’d follow the advice of going for the D500. Not only is the D500 and outstanding camera for action/sports photography, it’s a great camera for wildlife and birds, as well as landscape photography. Don’t get the idea that the D500 is a niche camera. It’s is a great all around camera that is especially suited for moving subjects. Just a thought.

Exactly, Greg. I love mine. It does everything I need it to do. And you know how I felt about my D7200. The buffer in the D500 was a game-changer for me.

Thanks everyone for the info. I found what looks like a very good deal. A refurb D500 at Adorama for $1200. More than I can afford right now but I'll keep saving the $$ until I can swing it. Thanks again!

Good choice. I bought my daughter a D7500 which is a perfect size for her. She also shoots a lot of her sons' sporting activities. I can see where the AF of the D500 would certainly come in handy, but I need to evaluate whether she/we are using the AF of the 7500 to best advantage. Gotta get Steve Perry's book.

Just buy a larger card.

I replaced my D3200 with a D7500 about a year ago and have zero regrets. Unless you absolutely need 2 card slots and a bulky battery grip, the D7500 in the better of the two. Don't be deterred by the mp count. It's not noticeable

Keep in mind, if you were to decide on a D500, you will be giving up a built in flash, and the body is huge compared to the D7500
