Love the bank shots with the swamp cooler. It would be better without the utility pole. These shots could all have been made somewhere in West Texas.
Thanks for the nice photos.
Off on a 400 mile round trip in Texas today. Just might shot a photo or two.

Thought about taking out the power pole and maybe should have. Have this thing about leaving the image the way I found it.

We used to visit Midland, Odessa, Crane, TX et al during my film days...and you are right. One of the places I would have loved to photograph was a crossroad burg named Tarzan, TX...always wondered if he visited there!!

I think the car body is a late Forties Chevy coupe.

That was what I was thinking...couldn't find any tags that identified it other than this one...can you ID from this?

Your series pulled on my heart strings to see a once robust town falling into decay like so many in the midwest and west. This was a really interesting post.

FROZEN IN TIME
By Bob Story

I came upon this place, nearly lost in time,
Beckoning like the mystery of an unsolved crime,

Where life became fragile and succumbed to its fate,
Forgotten by progress and avoided by the Interstate,

This old map shows it was once there,
But alas, now it’s just miles from nowhere,

Broken down buildings with signs painted on,
The colors now faded, the words nearly gone,

An old John Deere covered in weeds and dust,
A victim of time and just left there to rust,

Once proud gas pumps still waiting in line,
Ethyl by the gallon, at a point forty-nine,

A windmill with missing vanes, its turn had ceased,
Just a skeleton in the wind, but still standing at least
Yet...life lingers there still, you can see it if you look,
Golden summer sunlight dancing for the pictures I took,

A place just waiting on this forgotten ground,
For the eye of the camera to come around,

Captured through the lens and now frozen in time,
Images for posterity in this new digital paradigm,

Now history will surely be written of this new age,
When our lives in binary numbers became the rage,

Still...there is this notion that pictures will always last,
Because life has more meaning when seeing our past.

Wow, missed a lot because I blew right through there, staying on the "big highway" !!
Love those old buildings.
