Meaning no offense I am always amused at posts where people tell us they are going to a different country and want suggestions on carrying the camera or better security tips. What situations do you think you will find in Scotland and Ireland that is not here in America?

Here, we can carry bullet launchers, if we so desire.

Any country (including ours) tends to frown on non-citizens with personal firearms.

In a more serious vein, it is not a bad idea to ask what one can expect to encounter in an unfamiliar area.

Is where I am going safe?

Is it over-run with ne'er-do-wells?

Are pickpockets prevalent?

Etc.

It is not amusing, at all, to run afoul of a foreseeable situation.

Like the first posters I have and like Cotton Carrier, it places the Camera in front on your Chest and You have to rotate the Camera 90 degrees in order to detach it from the Carrier, my Cotton Carrier lets me carry two Cameras with Lenses Attached, although I usually only carry one Camera, I have used the Cotton Carrier System for Hiking and even Bicycling...Very Secure, I also love my Newswear Chestvest, it has four pouches to carry a Camera and three Lenses, or two Cameras and Two Lenses, you can wear it on your side, the pouches are closed with Velcro Flaps and are very Water Resistant, or I prefer carrying on my front with all Four Pouches at my Fingertips and on my front for Protection with my Hands, however Cotton Carrier and the Newswear Chestvest are very noticeable....

I don't disagree with you as I carry myself when I am not in California.

But the questions you posed are not the same as the OP posed that I can see. He was asking for a way of carrying his camera. Nothing about pickpockets, safe areas, nere do wells and so on. I didn't notice any mention at all of firearms in his initial post. Did you?

Of course, not.

I was being facetious about the bullet launchers.

You were being amused and I was giving examples of why it was not necessarily amusing, but prudent to get all the information you can about a new area - including how to keep your camera secure, safe from the weather and any walking conditions that might require a different carrying technique than you are used to using.

Social conditions are also a factor when you are considering security, no matter what the activity.

Different places have different rules.

Always be careful in unfamiliar territory.

It's safer!

I second CottonCarrier - I have used the Skout since it was released and found it effortless to carry the camera and to quickly take shots.

Well, I will be going to Scotland and Ireland in a few months and am looking for suggestions or recommendation to accommodate my camera against my chest for quick access and protection for the camera from weather, security, and banging it around while walking. I have the D850 with a 28-300 lens. The camera strap I use is the Upstrap brand and is great for normal usage while holding the camera along side my hip, but isn't very effective inside stores, restaurants, general travel, and other situations. I envisioned a plate that I could attach the camera too it so I could conceal carry with a coat on, yet be readily accessible for photo ops while still protecting the camera from possible self-induced damage. Any suggestions or products out there? Thanks for any response.

You might consider a "Belt Holster" and a Wrist Stap on the Camera body. I bought a Cheap plastic "Belt Holster" for less than $5.00 and it serves me quite well. I also have a sturdy Wrist strap attached to my Camera, if it slips out of my Hand, No harm is done. I also have a "Cross-Body" Strap that allows my Camera to Slide up & Down, and sits on my Hip comfortably, really does not Bounce around either when I walk, although Running would present a possible issue, bouncing around. Hope my experience might be some Food for Thought, have fun on your trip.

I have used a wrist strap but it gets uncomfortable on hot days.

Cotton carriers makes a piece that fits on your chest and the camera fits into a fitting on it. You would need a very bulky coat to conceal it. I would also suggest covering the brand name on the camera with gafer tape. reduces impulse theft.

This is the rub of travelling DSLRs. Enjoy the beast or perhaps consider a smaller camera.

Cheers!

To hopefully answer your question check out Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops if in your area for a harness that holds binoculars/a camera close to your chest to keep it from swinging around.

Have a great trip,

Your right that's why I use my Sony A6400 with the pancake 16-55 lens. Small lightweight and does a good job. On a trip it is rare I use my Sony A7RII with the 24 to 240 lens.

My friend I and millions of others have always known. But what you continue to forget is the OP did not ask for that information. I don't have time to write a thesis on any subject brought up just in case the questioner MAY not know.

This is my last word as I the post should belong to the OP who started it rather than inane nonsense.
