That is really different and interesting. Well-spotted, nicely composed - very good, I like it.

With the bill hidden it is hard to tell which species of swan we are looking at (hard for me anyway). More mystery!

Thank you, Mike! This is one of a pair of clipped wing "mascots" at a cemetery. They are supposedly trumpeter swans. They started breeding four or five years ago.

And their alarm (?) call is definitely trumpet-like

Thanks. Trumpeters they are. The European swans, which are all over North America now, have orange bills.

Trumpeter swans are pretty great birds. A bunch of them honking sounds like someone got every player in the brass section of the orchestra drunk. It could happen. Yours look pretty good. Since they dabble in shallow water for food, their heads are often muddy. I was able to get pretty close to a pair back in September and get some photos.

I had to come back and make a comment. Loved the way the neck curves and the eye follows back around the ripples to the bird. I especially was visually held by the way you finished the water making it look to me like the ripples were covered with thin ice as an extension of the ice in the background. Great job with filters, capture, composition and isolation.

Upper right corner shows a bit of the ice that I found this morning (28 degrees) at the shallow man-made pond where this swan and mate reside.

Panasonic Lumix G7 with 14-140 mm lens. 1/650 sec, f/6.3, ISO 800. Edits include softening and glow. (btw, the time stamp is an hour fast; I re-set after daylight savings time ended...I thought!)

Feedback welcomed. Thanks for viewing!

That’s such a beautiful picture! Angelic. Just kind of stopped me in my tracks. Thanks for sharing.
