Scotland vs. Ireland
I really like them both and have ancestral connections to both but my favorite is Scotland. It's a wonderful place to explore, from the lowlands and Robert Louis Stevenson country to the highlands, places like Rannoch Moor and the islands like Skye and Iona. And I agree that slipping a bit further south into northern England to see Hadrian's Wall is worthwhile. If you want to really see Scotland, dedicate a month to the adventure. And, at the end of the month, make plans to return to see more of it. I've visited it several times and still have places I haven't seen on my list.
I'm half Irish and half Scottish which means that I like to drink but I don't like to pay for it..!
You can't make a mistake--either one you choose will be great.

That's tough, they are both beautiful, but I guess if it came down to it, I'll go back to Ireland!

The West of Ireland is better experience, but Scotland great too--Stay away from Dublin and Edinburgh is a one day thing
I disagree that Edinburgh is a one day thing. It depends on what you like. Make sure you get online and search out the things you like and maybe a new experience or two.
My wife and I are planning a trip to Scotland in the Spring. We will spend one week in Edinburgh and one week in Glasgow.

Really hard choice! But Scotland because my grand parents came from Kilwinning.

It really depends on what you are looking for. Scotland has the best scenery for photographing, especially up north around the locks, and yes, Edeborough is awesome but most of the country is remote and scantly populated. I like that.
Ireland has some of the friendliest people in the world and also has an abundance of photo opportunities. Instead of one or the other, I suggest a mindset of which do I do first? A website called TravelZoo.com has some amazing package deals deals that may put Ireland first.
In either case, if this a photo journey I highly recommend renting a car to get off the beaten track. Left-side driving may sound intimidating but you will quickly adjust. It is like driving in the left lane of a one way road.
Safe and happy travels.

Ireland.....slightly friendlier, better beer, better weather (by a blade of grass).
Gentlemen, it's spelled Edinburg but pronounced edinboro.
Edinburg is an improvement on Edeborough but the accepted spelling is Edinburgh.

Edinburgh vs Dublin, Edinburgh wins. Country vs. country, dead heat. Go to both, Visit Isle of Skye in Scotland, and Beara Peninsula in Ireland.
Have a great trip, post your images!

I agree completely. Both fantastic places but the Irish seem to be a bit more loose an welcoming. Edinburgh an amazing city. Single malt scotch from small distilleries not to be missed.
