Scotland vs. Ireland
For those who have been to both countries, if you had the time to visit only one, which would you choose? I hear that Edinborough is a great city.
Scotland but only by a hair.
Dublin has Temple Bar which in my opinion was better than the Golden Mile in Edinburgh both great cities but Dublin was more fun. Scotland vs Northern Ireland, then Scotland first. Great whiskies in both countries, better beer in Ireland.
My humble opinion, others may differ!
Both are great but if it has got to be one then Ireland, its a no brainer.
Very tourist friendly and will go out of their way to help . Scots are great people but a little more insular and more process driven .
Assuming you intend to take photos, I think Scotland has more interesting opportunities from Hadrian’s Wall to Edinburgh up the River Spey valley (scotch distilleries) to the North Sea and down the Lochs. I’ve only visited the west coast of Ireland and there certainly are lots of photo opportunities but....
Will you be playing golf ?
Never been to Ireland, but to Scotland several times. My absolute favorite travel designation. Like Edinborough, but LOVE the Highlands and Skye is not to be missed! (I love desolate beautiful places and some moderate hiking)
And don’t forget to take a picture of “Nessie”.
Make more time to go to both places.
You cant go wrong with either. They each have strengths. My opinion is for photography, I would say Scotland will offer more majestic type images and Ireland more open and landscape type images. Dublin and Edinborough are each easy walk cities. The Highlands in Scotland are incredible as are the coasts in Ireland.
I don't think you would be disappointed with either choice. If I could only go to ONE city in either country it would be Dublin. However the next 3 would all be in Scotland with Edinborough, St Andrews and Inverness all being great stops. I'm happy I took the time to visit both places.

Six of one half a dozen of the other.
Na...Ireland.
Scotland but be sure to rent a car and stay at B&B's. My best experieces were in Glencoe and on the isle of Skye. Edinburgh is nice but a city is a city is a city. Enjoy the country. You really meet some nice people in the B&B's.
