Sounds like politically correct save the planet by showing nature contrasted by images pointing out the horrible things we've done to the planet bullshit disguised as Highbrow Intellectualism!

I believe that the “judge” is laboring under a misapprehension; that they are employing an effective mode of communication? Unfortunately, it appears that, while their English may have been trained at some stage... it has since escaped, and returned to the wild.

My advice, whenever I see photographic competitions that mention the two words “contemporary philosophy”? Send the daft buggers a pic of ice and snow... it’ll probably win something. 😉

Maybe a pic of a banana duct taped to a wall with a monkey reaching for it while stirring the vegetable soup kettle boiling on an open pit fire.

Modern politics makes about as much sense as the convoluted call at the beginning of this thread.

As people, we all need to step back, stand down a bit, and breathe. Then, (regardless of party preference) vote like hell!

I'm simply going to "unwatch" this thread.

Like many fellow uhh'ers I enter a few photo contests in line with my favoured photography subjects, however I recently came across a photo contest which totally baffled me as to the subject matter, this is it below, does anyone have a clue what I should look in my portfolio for??

"Transitions and displacements are the objects of reflection for our call. The concept of the two terms is a recall to the “liquid” vision of contemporary philosophy. Transitions, displacements, mutations of condition are the prerogatives of a fluid approach to reality, prerogatives of a free change in the state of things that allows full organic adherence to the environment and to the context in which each subject / object is immersed . The works that will take part in the exhibition will represent an excursus on the subject, addressed both from a physical, chemical and biological point of view and from a social, cultural and political one"
Like many fellow uhh'ers I enter a few photo conte... (show quote)

I would love to see the entries to this contest! Personally, I wouldn’t have a clue as to what to submit either! I’ve read the quoted section THREE times and it STILL doesn’t make sense and I even have a college degree!

Can you photograph a Jackson Pollack style image. Out of focus will help.

I especially liked the introduction to this article:

“It is impossible for someone to lie unless he thinks he knows the truth. Producing bullshit requires no such conviction.” – Harry Frankfurt

On Bullshit, the philosopher Frankfurt (2005) defines bullshit as something that is designed to impress but that was constructed absent direct concern for the truth.”

These contest “rules” must have been designed to impress but alas...it is only BS

But it isn’t a contest. It is a call for entry for an exhibit. What was posted isn’t rules but a description of the subject/ topic/ theme

Martin - I cannot read all of the pages to this point, and so I may be repeating a point already made. What they want is defined in the last sentence where they state they want pictures that represent "an excursus ... from a social, cultural and political (point of view)." So despite all the preceding chaf, it's actually quite clear. Good luck if you step into this... this..., well good luck.

Say WHAT? That has to come under the heading of: "We're not sure that what you think you read was exactly what was meant!"
