Those are good questions and Linda asked similar questions third post of this thread. OP is using it for basic editing and retouching.

OP is using the free version.

Yes, thanks. I am not sure how to ask the question. "Basic editing and retouching" doesn't really tell us much. "Post photos from my cell phone to Instagram that will get a lot of upvotes" would be a more meaningful answer. Wedding or portrait photography would require different editing needs, etc.

Here is one attempt at asking the question:

The question I keep asking, and that I think is always appropriate when discussing software: is the tool working for me, or am I working for the tool? Am I able to adapt the tool to my use, or am I being forced to change to adapt to the tool?

Your topic was long-lasting and full of great information, Mike!

My first questions/comments in this thread included, "but the first step should always be to determine what your interests are and what tools you need to accomplish your goals. And how much time are you willing to devote to learning software."

Just like the questions about cameras and lenses, the more we know about the OP, the better

Yep. That thread was really useful for me, but perhaps intimidating to a lot of people because it is pretty tech-y and also because discussions about software always lead to arguments.

What are your thoughts on Photoscape X Pro, is it as good as Photshop Elements and Lightroom.

Just wondering

I notice that Photoscape, which apparently is doing non-destructive editing of raw files and is putting editing changes into a separate file, will not save edits between sessions and will only export your work as JPEGs. That nay not be an issue for you, but would be a deal breaker for me.

LOL, I wasn't going to mention that part There aren't too many topics in main discussion forum that stay civil and thoughtful all the way through.

Early in Linda Ronstadt's career she heard Emmy Lou Harris sing and was blown away by her voice. She said that at that moment she realized that she had a choice. She could be jealous and hate Harris... or she could ask Harris if she could sing with her, if they could sing together. She chose the second and she said that decision changed the course of her life. Over the years she successfully collaborated with many people in many different genres of music, staying civil and thoughtful all the way through.

People miss a lot in life when they chose anger and jealousy. We need more "singing together" around here.

I use the free version, and I love it, that's all I need. Tony Northrup recommends it, look on his site for the best free software. Hope this helps Jim Bianco

I use the paid version and am quite happy with its versatility.

I own copies of both PS and Elements and never use them.

Depends on what your processing needs and level of start-up patience.

It depends on the degree of post processing you're into. Several years ago i introduced the free PhotoScape software to our Computer Club members and several, who are not doing 'intensive' PP began using it and are still enjoying it today and are very pleased with all that it will do. At that time Photoscape didn't involve 'Layers', so I wouldn't compare it as equal to Elements.

I have the free version, which is quite capable and easy to learn. It meets all my basic editing needs for an Olympus TG-5, which was not covered by my Capture One Pro for Sony.

You might want to look at Apple "Photos" that is part of the Mac/IMac system.
I as a seasoned citizen find it very easy to use and satisfactory for what I do.
