We dog sat for someone for about three months. That dog just would not stop barking. I bought a cheap one of those collars and it seemed to work enough to make it worth while. I think the shock gets stronger with each bark, there isn't any danger of actually hurting the dog.

I have an older dog that does the same thing and have bought a number of these devices that were suppose to work by distracting them. Nothing has worked.

I would NEVER shock my dog under any circumstance. He's my buddy who trusts and depends on me.
How would all you tough guy husbands like to wear that same collar, and give your wife the button. See how you would like it every time you argue. Don't worry " it won't hurt you". BS.
The owner may be sympathetic and tolerant with regard to their dog's barking habit................
the problem is that neighbors also have to endure the noise

I just remember that a dog asks for little but gives so much in return. The least we can do is give them what they ask us for.
So True, Dogs are Great, mine barks at Buzzards and Crows, among other things.

Good morning Jerry. We issue a command to our Golden to “stop” and he has figured out what that means and generally stops most of the time. 😀
Excellent! Can I have your dog? You can have mine.

Uh! Okay? People talk for a purpose. Dogs bark for a purpose. Cats meow for a purpose. Snakes don’t really make a sound. Turtles don’t really make a sound! Fish don’t make sounds either. At least, I have never heard them.
A dog is barking for your attention. It wants to tell you something. It could be there is someone else making a noise that it doesn’t understand. Or it could be something very simple. Like, thank you for giving me a nice place to sleep and the food I just ate was delicious.
By the way, what kind of dog do you have. I have two. Both are rescued and are trained as therapy dogs. Lucy is 12 years old and is a mix of a Border Collie and Australian Cattle Dog. Bentley is a Labrador and Dalmatian mix. But where are his spots? If you rub his belly, you will find them all!

We are down to one old pug and a long haired dachshund - the barker. If I get out of a chair, he barks. If he hears a car on the road, he barks. If he senses an animal in the woods, he barks. While he's eating, he'll lift his head and bark once or twice. He knows the sound of the UPS truck and starts barking as soon as it turns the corner. When a package arrives, I have to open it and show him what's inside.
We got him from a friend who was moving, and he was the same with her. This dog is so smart that I can almost have a conversation with him. His previous owner used, "No barking," and that works - eventually. He knows what that means, but it takes a while to convince him. To make the situation even worse, he has the loudest bark I've ever heard.

Try throwing him/her a bone. Or get ear plugs.
I used to have a neighbor who had a dog that would bark constantly. I bought one of those that looked like a little bird house. I set it on ultrasonic and placed it facing his yard. It didn't stop the barking, so I set it to the audible mode. It would emit a very annoying high-pitched sound every time the dog barked. After about a week, the neighbor asked if I would turn it off. I told him I'd be glad to turn it off as soon as he got his dog to stop barking. It worked! I don't know what he did, but I never heard the dog bark again.
I just came across this. : )

Dog wants attention so we turn away and stop moving until barking stops. Start moving and if barking starts - we stop again. Takes time and patience and only works when you're there.
Barking when you go away is best treated by crating the dog when you leave or take dog with you.
