TN is a click monster - I unsubscribed and stopped watching his videos after the despicable hatchet job he did on Steve McCurry.
You are right. That did me in as well. You notice he pulled that video after he realized what a blunder he had commited.
I haven't followed Northrup for several years now as I find creative content much more appealing than the selling of gear. He's considered an "influencer" on YT because of the number of subscribers, but the motivations seemingly are now aimed more at hits instead of content that will help me grow.
Isn't he the same gentleman that stated that micro fourth third was dying? I laughed when he said that the Olympus 12-40 f2.8 Pro was not a good lens.
Suggest reading the excellent, very detailed Nikon annual report as posted by repelo above:
https://www.nikon.com/about/ir/ir_library/ar/pdf/nr2019/19nikonreport_e.pdfNikon is a huge company that has endured the same contraction in camera sales that all similar firms have seen; as shown in the report, audited by a US firm, it has actually adjusted and survived very well. It continues to make profits, pay dividends and do share repurchases while dealing as best it can with changing conditions, and diversifying to related fields based on its historic skill sets, as of course it needs to. China has now replaced the US as its largest market. In sum, it isn't going anywhere negative anytime soon.
If Tony or his wife told me what time it was, I'd pray I have an accurate watch to check for myself.

I'll lose no sleep, short no stock.... business always has it's up's and down's...tough to read the public want/need, especially as the pace of change accelerates. Not so long ago Sony was badmouthed a lot, others have been there, those that recognize and inovate, they go on, those that don't, they just go.... Now, they should all consider opening up a phone devision.

Northrup has been bad mouthing Nikon and their products for a quite a while now. For me at least his veracity is in doubt
Not so much, a couple years ago, the Northrups switched to Nikon for a large part of their work. I think (?) the D850 did it for them. I think he’s just stirring the pot.
The digital camera industry has been nosediving as of late, and Nikon is feeling the pain. In its latest financial results, Nikon revealed some grim numbers and an even darker forecast. The company’s business of selling cameras and lenses will no longer be its biggest revenue-generating segment.
In an interview with Nikkei back in August, Nikon CEO Toshikazu Umatate stated that although imaging profits had fallen to 1/6th of its peak back in 2012, he expected profits to bounce back to ¥20 billion ($188.7 million) within three years.
Now Nikon is admitting that it overestimated how much its new Z Series line of full-frame mirrorless cameras would brighten its prospects.
Of the four major camera manufacturers, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fuji, only one doesn't make their own sensors - Nikon. Only one is not part of a major Japanese conglomerate with "fingers in many pies" - Nikon.
Two - Canon and Nikon - have been painfully slow to introduce mirrorless cameras - which may be a good thing strategically if not so much tactically.
Hmm...I wonder how much he made for the video bad-mouthing Nikon?
And who paid him?
