We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy is an adult afraid of changing camera brands.

As I look through my. photo closet, I've shot camera manufactured by some hallowed but deceased names in camera manufacturing, such as Rollei, Kodak, Speed Graphic. It's easy to predict but hard to know about Nikon. In a very competitive, fast changing market that is also shrinking, it is difficult to predict the future. For many people, like my kids, photography does not involve the purchase of dedicated photo equipment; their smart phone is sufficient. In prior days, they would have purchased lower end consumer cameras from photographic equipment manufacturers. I don't have the financial expertise or the knowledge about the internal workings of Nikon to venture an opinion. I would not be surprised , however, to see a few more hallowed names fade into memory in the next several years.

According to Tony Northrup's very recent You Tube, "Nikon is Dying", Nikon is going out of business unless they change things quickly. What do you think?

I think Tony Northrup is a loudmouth and an idiot. I think he makes these kinds of posts to suck you in and runup his numbers so he can make money out of this. He's right less often that Ken Rockwell and not as entertaining.

The Angry Photographer, on a recent You Tube Video, said Nikon made bad decisions, which is why it is where they are financially. He also was disturbed, because Nikon didn't send him a crop sensor Z50 mirrorless camera, to test for 3 weeks. He also mentioned that You Tube gives Nikon a lot of advertising, and reviews. And Nikon is ignoring You Tube Videos, where two popular photographers, previously Nikon owners, are switching to Sony mirrorless cameras. But, the Angry Photographer doesn't think Nikon is going out of business. Nikon, just has to change their decision makings. He didn't say what decisions needed to be made though. The Angry Photographer is a Nikon loyalist. And has no intentions of switching over to Sony. He claims he gets not one penny from Nikon for his support of Nikon's DSLRs and lenses..I personally believe Nikon will not go out of business. But, will take financial losses, they have not experienced in decades past. Nikon has announced the successor to the D750. It will be named the D780. It will be a 24 megapixels DSLR, not mirrorless. We shall see if it becomes a big seller next year?
The Angry Photographer, on a recent You Tube Video... (show quote)

He could buy the Z50 and returns it after 3 weeks directly from Nikon store.

I do believe Tony Northrup. I know what he talked about. I know when he is right and when he is wrong. In this case he just doesn't know but he said so because he no longer likes Nikon cameras. He also is wrong in telling people to kill JPEG. He was wrong also in saying ISO is fake.

It pains me to say, but I too think it's time for JPEG to die. It's like putting a corvette engine in a model T.

YouTube opinions and prognostications should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Remember that the video you’re watching was produced solely (for the most part) for personal gain and/or gratification. Altruism is seldom the motivator.

And many of the bigger photography gear reviewers on YouTube (and elsewhere on the internet) receive sponsorship and other perks from various manufacturers and retailers in exchange for positive reviews. Paid trips to photography events, items loaned out for testing, etc. Of course this will impact the reviews.

If you look closely, most successful photographers changed their camera brand.

From Argus to Voightlander to Miranda ?
I did that, and I expect anyone else who
follows that path will succeed !

He said he spoke to someone with a high position at Nikon. Even named the person. He told the Angry Photographer that the Z50 would be coming to him. It did not. He felt since he was a spokesperson for Nikon on You Tube, he should not have to buy it, to test it out. I'm assuming he has received Nikon test cameras in the past. Because, he mentioned that you have to do paperwork, upon receiving the camera, to keep it for 3 weeks of testing.
