Good morning "treefarmer" - Please tell your wife I love her too - if only from afar. My beautiful spouse is very much like yours although in light of my occasional (frequent?) GAS attacks she will inform me that "He who dies with the most toys is STILL dead".

All the best to you and yours and Happy Holidays

Terry

All you males with perpetual GAS remind me of what my mother said about men. "Men are simple creatures, daughter. If you want to keep a man happy, all you have to do is feed him well, give him plenty of affection, Tell him he is a good boy every day, and make sure he has plenty of toys!" I found her advice to be true. I also found it works equally well for my dogs!

I may be odd, or different, which is why I tend to avoid women who travel along this path.

Anyway, to my point – A few months ago my loving wife of 47 years gently took my hands, looked into my eyes, and calmly said “Dear, if you don’t spend it, I will.” Well, I am now enjoying my new D850, 24-70 f2.8, and 70-200 f2.8. While I am still learning about the camera, as its’ capabilities are clearly more advanced than mine, I have also learned that listening to your wife can be very rewarding in dealing with GAS attacks.

Wishing the best to all for the Holidays.

Fight? If there are three of them you split it three ways. What's to fight about?

"If you spend it, I will kill you"

I laughed out loud and nearly fell out of my chair when I read that.

Like many other Hedgehog participants, I too have a good wife for the last 64 years who frequently offers advice. Recently, while watching "Wheel of Fortune" my imagination let go and I commented that given a choice between winning a $100,000 cash prize or Vana White, I would rather take the cash.
She promptly commented that taking the cash was a good choice, since I could at least make use of the money.

So I promptly ordered a new Sony A7R 111 and three lenses. And for those who might ask why, the answer is "BECAUSE."

I too have been fortunate in having a good wife for 64 years, and who is quick to offer advice. While watching Wheel of Fortune recently, my imagination went wild, and I commented that given a choice between winning a $100,000 cash prize or Vana White, I would take the money.
My wife quickly complemented me on my choice, saying that at least I could get some use out of the money.
So I quickly ordered a new Sony R7 iii camera and some lenses. And for those who might ask why, the answer is BECAUSE.

Your bride sounds like mine. Early this year I found a 2003 one owner 50th aniversery Corvette with only 25,000 miles in pristine condition. I wanted it but just kept hesitating on making the purchase. It was my wife of 38 years that pushed me over the edge and told me to get it. I am a happy man, however I only have a D7100.

Anyone can buy a D850 (I own one) but not everybody, with permission, can buy a Corvette. 2003 with 25K sounds right to me. I have several of my golf buddies with older Corettes and Mustangs that they park in envy row at the course, and of course I have to drive by them when I play, coming and going. I admire them, envy them, but resist since I have three vehicles already. Perhaps I need to readjust my thinking and sell one to make room for a vette or mustang. While in college I had a new 65 Mustang that I traded for a white 64 corvette convertible that I wish I still owner.

The D850 is my dream camera. I currently have the D750, D7200, and D5300 (which is for the hubby so that he doesn't mess with my better cameras and/or lenses.

Your wife sounds awesome. My hubby lets me do what I want with our money because I am the penny pincher and the household book-keeper. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to purchasing anything related to my love of photography. I am always telling myself "no" when I pick up the D850 at the camera store. Some day I should bring the hubby with me, and I bet he would change my mind. This has happened before when he went with me to the Harley shop and I came home with my Fatboy.

Thank you for the idea.

As a fellow D850 owner, let me suggest you check out Steve Perry's site at backcountrygallery.com. His blog has a wealth of Nikon information and his books on "Exposure and Metering for Nikon" and "The Nikon AF System" will help you dig into the depths of that great camera.

Steve is a member here and, although I have no affiliation with him, I cannot recommend his site and books highly enough. A GREAT RESOURCE!

Steve’s books answer Nikon related questions that no other publication comes close to.

You may have found out by now, but you will love the D850. Excellent pix for a crop sensor camera and a dream to operate.
