This is my first time post. I have been following the forum for several months and really appreciate the sharing of experience, insight, and advice of the members, especially without judgement. Anyway, to my point – A few months ago my loving wife of 47 years gently took my hands, looked into my eyes, and calmly said “Dear, if you don’t spend it, I will.” Well, I am now enjoying my new D850, 24-70 f2.8, and 70-200 f2.8. While I am still learning about the camera, as its’ capabilities are clearly more advanced than mine, I have also learned that listening to your wife can be very rewarding in dealing with GAS attacks.

Welcome to your first post. I have a lovely bride as well, who says something that's pretty much the same, except a "little" different. She looks lovingly into my eyes, and says "If you spend it, I will kill you"
Somehow, it sounds like your lovely bride of 47 years has a nicer way about saying than my lovely bride of 33 years. HAHA.

Your bride sounds like mine. Early this year I found a 2003 one owner 50th aniversery Corvette with only 25,000 miles in pristine condition. I wanted it but just kept hesitating on making the purchase. It was my wife of 38 years that pushed me over the edge and told me to get it. I am a happy man, however I only have a D7100.

As a fellow D850 owner, let me suggest you check out Steve Perry's site at backcountrygallery.com. His blog has a wealth of Nikon information and his books on "Exposure and Metering for Nikon" and "The Nikon AF System" will help you dig into the depths of that great camera.
Steve is a member here and, although I have no affiliation with him, I cannot recommend his site and books highly enough. A GREAT RESOURCE!

Back in 1963 my new bride and I had just moved into our new home when I had a chance to buy a 1/6th interest in a 1946 BC12D Taylorcraft airplane. I had always wanted to learn to fly but with the new home and all, I hesitated. My new bride pushed me so I did and after a lot of instruction I got my private license. Of course over the past 68 years it has worked in the reverse too.

If you +’re looking for great instruction on your camera go to creative live.com. They have instructional videos on most cameras. The instructor is excellent. I have 3 of their videos.

Good morning "treefarmer" - Please tell your wife I love her too - if only from afar. My beautiful spouse is very much like yours although in light of my occasional (frequent?) GAS attacks she will inform me that "He who dies with the most toys is STILL dead".

At one point, my parents fretted that they were spending money that I would otherwise inherit. I had to reassure them first of all that it was their money.

Good luck with the D850 - don't have one, but have taken some wonderful pix with my D7200 around the lobster boats in the harbor at Westport and on Horeseneck Beach...beautiful part of the world!

That's exactly why my husband keeps the big money in his account - I am a spender, he is a saver. He acts as my resistor to slow down my impulses, like GAS attacks. And I act as his step-up transformer when he's waffling about his infrequent big-ticket spending.

Welcome to UHH. I'm sure you'll enjoy your D850. It's one of the cameras in my tool kit, along with both of those lenses.
