I have the very same problem with the auto focus of my Nikon AF-S VR 70-200 F2.8 lens. Does anyone know of a shop that can repair the auto focus of this lens besides the Nikon Repair?? I understand they will be hard to locate after this year. I appreciate any suggestions. By the way I am located in SC if that means anything.
Thank You, David

They make a 200-500 5.6 that has been very well received by customer/user reviews. An awesome price right now too.

I am aware of that. The Sigma 50-500, however, was nicknamed the Bigma when it came out. Although the Nikon 200-500 has a good range, it's not quite the same as the 50-500, and "Bigma" also referred to its size. My globe trotting friend used the Bigma for years and years before finally upgrading to the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary model.

What does all of this have to do with auto focus on my Sigma 50-500.

It doesn't. I would speak to the guys at Ronkonkoma NY to see if you can have it fixed. My 50-500 was a pre-stabilized unit with a relatively low serial number - they were able to fix it better than new. I have a 100-300 that needed to be re-chipped so it could work with remote programs that could do auto focus. Unfortunately they could not provide the part needed - it was too old. The lens works extremely well otherwise. But you won't know until you call them.

So, does that mean a much smaller zoom from Sigma could be called a smallma.
