For the D850 users only. What makes this camera better for what you shoot?
What lens do you prefer and why?
I am thinking of supplementing my d500. I shoot mostly city, people, landscapes and waterfalls and deep woods.
I know that i f I add this camera I am buying new F2.8 glass

I use my 850 whenever I head out for a photo day. I also take a D800e, 4x5, Hasselblad, Pentax 6x7, and 35mm. The 850 is a wonderful camera for landscapes. Waterfalls, if one were anywhere near me - arid desert here for the most part.

For my day to day constant companion, I have the D800e.

The results I get from the D850 are super, IMHO.

Could I have done these with the 800e or even my 700? Yup, and on the screen it would be very difficult to tell the difference. Prints are where the difference might be noticed. If I had to use only one digital camera, it would be the 850.

I like the massive cropping ability you have with a high megapixel camera. You can get two or three images out of one shot and still have enough pixels to enlarge if you want.
I use mine mostly at night because that seems to be when I have time to shoot.
I think the only place where the 850 may not shine bright is fast action sporting events or BIF.
A couple of my favorite lenses are the 24mm Sigma ART lens, the 50mm Sigma ART lens and the Nikon 24-70. Another fabulous lens is the Nikon 14-24.
Another issue that may arise is the size and weight. It's definitely the camera to grab if your heading out to shoot but, I'm looking at a smaller every day carry camera-- looking pretty hard at the Q2..

Tho not a Nikon 850, use of 80MP, low ISO,
and a premium quality lens would, it seems,
be cogent to this thread.

So, what do I do with such vast image detail
ability ? What any good IQ geek would do ...
I shoot brick walls ! OK, it's an old joke, but
I am NOT joking !

Acoarst we all know that you can't reeeeally
post 80MP images here ... they all hafta get
down sampled ... but allowing for that, here
in answer to the OP query, is what I actually
do with 80MP, fine lens etc: Brick Walls [and
some similar stuff].

I love it for its low light abilities and its quick autofocus. I am still learning mine but I love the large files which enable heavy crops. The dynamic range is also outstanding. Is it woth the uprgrade from the D750 I had? I can only say it is for me.

I use mine primarily for wildlife. I don't know why someone would think the 850 wouldn't be appropriate for birds in flight. That's what I bought mine for. The best, fastest focus system on the DSLR market. Fast burst speed. With the Nikon 200~500 f5.6 it's the best I've ever used. With the in camera focus stacking it will be an outstanding landscape camera too.
What's not to like?

I like the ability to crop more when shooting my usual subject, birds.
I also like a shallow DOF and low light ability, so more often than not the D850 sits on the back of a 400mm F/2.8.

My lenses I use most of the time with my D850 are the Nikon 200-500 5.6, Nikon 500 PF 5.6, Nikon 70-200 2.8, Nikon 300 PF 4.
In a previous post I wrote that I do notice a difference in using the Nikon 500 PF 5.6 on the D500 and D850. I prefer the D850, even though I get less reach for wildlife, my images, IMHO, are better.
Below an example.
Nikon D850 with 500 5.6, Green Heron.

PS. I know Nikon has listed lenses it recommends for the D850, I have used lenses that they have NOT recommended and I still get outstanding results using this camera.

I was a "pixel peeper" long before there were pixels. I always used fine grain slide film and scrutinized my images under a loupe for detail. I use high-quality glass and good camera technique to get the sharpest images I can. I still use cameras with less MPs than my D850 because they are fun. But when I want the most detail in my shots, I put the other cameras away and use my D850.

For Landscapes, the photos are sharp front to back. The Nikkor 24-70, f2.8, is on it 98% of the time; with the VR on, you can handhold with good results without a tripod at low speeds. However, this was also true with the D810.

I like the image, although I wish you would post higher resolution versions to do them justice.

It has been my experience that although you may not get the most out of you hires sensor most of us will see some improvement from existing lenses. The recommended lenses may be marginally better but in most cases not enough to justify the expense of upgrading. I believe it is more of a marketing strategy more than anything else.

I shoot mostly birds and wildlife and that's what I bought it for. It does take fewer fps than my D500, but I don't find it a problem with BIF. I use the Nikkor 200-500mm for the most of my shooting. Images seem to be more detailed .with the 850. It is an amazing camera. For landscapes, it should be fantastic. The focus stacking function alone should serve you well.

My brick wall is one of my favorite shots. But it was shot with a 6mp D40.
