I share your pain. My wife was infected by the quilting bug, and in one day spent more on a sewing machine than I have spent in TOTAL during my lifetime on photo equipment. And now that one is “obsolete.”

Well, if I would ask my husband what he wanted for Christmas, it would not be camera related. He does have one...somewhere.
Last month we are going to a camera show in NYC. He walks in uses the facilities and tells me this is your Christmas present. Buy what you want. I'll meet you at Bobby Van's for lunch. When I get to the table he has this big $h@# eating smile on his face. I now know I am in trouble. We talk about what I bought and then he slides an Audi car brochure over. I order my second Beefeater. He bought an Audi A8, he traded in the 4 year old same model and will pick the new one up Christmas week. I think I have more shopping to do.

Take the 1.4 off your list for the 150-600. Your return on investment will not be good. Concentrate on the other items and work very hard on ways to get closer to your subjects vs. a teleconverter.

20 yrs ago my wife ask what I wanted for Christmas , I told her just a kiss will do nicely. She ask why I wouldn't give her a list I told her I have everything I need and what I wanted cost more than she could afford. Now to explain, this was my second marriage, we both worked, I paid all the household bills, did the car and house repairs. I never ask her how much she made and she didn't ask me, we never had an argument about money in 20 yrs.
I am very hard to please when buying clothing, toys and tools
So for Christmas I would get a big kiss and home made candy

The last time I bought my wife a sewing machine it cost about $600. But that was 30 years ago. Still working well enough.

Fast forward, new wife, she asked me what I wanted. I said I wanted to know what she wants for Christmas.

I don't need anything, really, and we're both in the same state there. I have a couple good cameras and lenses and a bunch of fairly good tools for the workbench. I sold my old house a couple years ago. Filled 3 20 yard dumpsters before moving. And left about 2/3 of the furniture in the house. Now I have stuff, but not way too much stuff. I don't need to add to it. So it looks like we will be getting each other new pillowcases or something like that (the old ones are well worn). Maybe some batteries for the smoke alarms. Lint rollers to take care of the cat hair. A dinner out. A trip to visit the kids (or have the kids visit).

Many years ago we got into the habit of giving our relatives food for Christmas. Something homemade. Gave up on socks and ties long ago. No little things to sit on shelves and collect dust.

Now that is a wife I would hang onto. I am like you in that if I see something I want whether it be a camera, high grade shotgun or other firearm, knife etc. it is usually pretty expensive.

I hope you do well on Christmas morning but it would seem you already did well.

Not too bad my wife has at least 7, counting 2 sergers and 2 or 3 embroidery machines, there are some home machines that cost as much as a Hasselblad

Do you ever ask her as she might ask you occasionally, Do you really need each of those cameras?

We don’t discuss that sore subject when it pertains to photo equipment. We prefer to surprise each other. I ask for gift cards from my adult children from YM Camera in Youngstown and get what I want.

My wife also has the quilting syndrome. We have an unspoken agreement. She doesn’t ask about the revolving photography stuff that enters and leaves my assigned closet, and... I don’t question what happens in the two rooms of our house that her “hobby” has commandeered. Separate hobby bank accounts help, as well.

You might want to do a little research on that teleconverter, most cameras will lose auto-focus when you attach any teleconverter/extender to a f/6.3 lens.

This is why I am still using an Elna machine I purchased at the Navy Exchange in Rota Spain back in 1983. It cost me $600 then, I have been told new in 1983 it was a $1600 machine stateside. It does everything I have ever needed and is still going strong.

That's most certainly what the OR staff is for. I am a CST and rarely do we ever have a surgeon that's in the OR for the moving of a patient. They might come in once the patient is moved to help position, but rarely before. It's up to the RN, CST, Anesthesia, and whoever else we can round up to move patients.

I hope she ends up enjoying orthopedic surgery. My hospital does a lot of the ortho trauma type cases. While in my clinicals for school I worked with a pediatric ortho doc who did club foot repairs. I really enjoyed doing those kinds of cases, it was rewarding knowing you were definitely helping those patients.
