My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told her my list is too expensive and I can pick up things I want for photography piece by piece as I have been doing. But she insisted that I share it with her... My list,, A light meter, not the best, but not the worst. A teleconverter 1.4 for my 150-600 lens. Transmitter and receiver for flash units. And another flash unit. I told her I don't buy new, but I shop at KEH, Adorama, B&H, MPB and get quality items for less than new. Not sure what she will get or she can get me socks. She wanted a list and that's what I would like.

My DW tried to trick me into showing her my newest wishlist camera. Not wanting to spend the family funds I declined. Before the day was over, I was spending $3K on a sewing machine "for Christmas".

Good grief! It's been some 20+ years since I stopped making saddles but back then 3K would have bought a stitcher that could sew 16oz leather (~1/4 inch thick)!

Not too bad my wife has at least 7, counting 2 sergers and 2 or 3 embroidery machines, there are some home machines that cost as much as a Hasselblad

The one we DIDN'T get was $10K. It was 1/4 inch too big for her sewing cabinet.

Our sales rep was excited because she was taking home her new machine that day. It had been in the "back room" while she's been making payments on it. She said her husband (1) didn't know, (2) would never know and (3) wouldn't notice the difference when he finally saw it. There is a reason they are all painted white.

Would your wife notice if your camera suddenly say D850 instead of D750 on the front?

Incredible! I just did a quick check and today's leather stitchers have much better features ( they can sew through 7/8 of an inch of leather as slow as 3 seconds per stitch))and still are priced around 3K What do those 10K home sewing machines have going for them? Wow!
LOL my wife wouldn't know if my camera could suddenly sing opera. Let alone what was printed on it.

My wife knows every camera, every lens. She doesn't sew, but likes my cameras.

"What do those 10K home sewing machines have going for them?"

It has to do with overall robustness, size of the "arm" so big quilts fit, "digital" embroidery "and much more".

A ha. The digital controls must be a large part of that. You can't get more robust than a saddle stitcher.

$3K sewing machine, you got off cheap.
The last time my wife went after sewing machines she got a used "commercial serger" for $1200 from the lady who owned the shop and was getting the latest and greatest for her business. A $5-6K computerized machine with more computer power than most laptops and an "inexpensive" machine for our daughter, I think it was $500. Came to over $7-8K plus sales tax. Our daughter looked at the machine the wife got her "That's nice." (never opened the box) and went back to doing applications for Medical School. She is now in 2nd year and the box has still never been opened. She plans to be a surgeon so the machine doesn't do the kind of sewing she plans on doing. But that thing the wife got might do surgical sewing, it does just about everything else except warm your coffee and change the TV channels.

Reconstructive orthopedic surgery no less. She wants to correct birth defects and repair major trauma.
When asked what about 350 lb football linemen needing to be shifted on the OR table to rebuild a knee? - "That is what college football player orderlies are for." Jasmine is 5'4" and 124, I keep asking where she is hiding the 24.
The medical center where most of my doctors are has an orthopedic surgeon who is about 5' 1 or 2 and maybe 90-95 lbs but she has no problems - she is a hand specialist.

For the light meter, take a look at the Sekonic L-478. It's the first light meter to have a touch screen. I've had one for years that I use for studio photography. I got the model that has the built-in PocketWizard module. I can trigger my PocketWizard radio triggers right from the meter. They also have models for triggering Elinchrom and Phottix triggers.
