My money is on the toad. It’s probably wiser.

Just a quick check on netiquette

Is it now acceptable to edit someone else's image without first asking permission??

This has happened twice in a number of weeks and appears to be directly for the posters own inflated ego as both edits looked like they were edited by beginners???

Look forward to see if this has now changed on the Hog

Regards
Joe

I see as an indication that the person doing this is a photographic neophyte and doesn't yet understand. Its one thing if the poster asks for help in making changes to their image...doing it without permission is sort of like a graffiti artist defacing a wall.

You are quite wrong--except for here at UHH. It is STANDARD PRACTICE in the "real world" when discussing photos or art, whether in person or in books, to do what is here called "editing."

As a photographer, you might want to know your rights and the rights of others better.

Since this entire thread is about this web site's rules, for UHH members this is the real world. What is accepted, or not accepted, elsewhere is irrelevant. A status that you are rapidly approaching, or in the minds of many, may have already attained.

He is not wrong at all.

If you like the rules in the "real world", go there to discuss other people's photos and art.

Don't blame someone else if you run afoul of the rules on UHH. It's not the fault of UHH or any of it's members. That's on you.

If you don't like the rules here, leave!

Boys! I OBEY the rules, one they are explained, so stop being ignorant of the events.

YOU and this whole group should be upset that you look like wimps, afraid to follow professional standards. Why would you want a "safe," "attaboy, great work" place only? So needy. It's hard to pick out the ones who really want to be better photographers and learn from and give to them.

Why is that rule so sacrosanct that it cannot be reconsidered? Instead of hateful attacks, it might be better to have a healthy discussion.

Boys! I OBEY the rules, one they are explained, so... (show quote)

If following the rules of an organization that I willingly joined and wanting to get along with fellow members makes me a wimp, then I confess to being a wimp. I joined with my eyes wide open and if after joining I found I disagree with the rules and/or polices I am as free to leave as I was free to join. Arguing with other members for what appears to be the sake of arguing is a juvenile tactic used to get a pat on the head. An “atta boy” if you will.

You and I are free to leave at any time. Obvious. Maybe you argue for the sake of arguing. That is not my purpose. Too bad you are unable to see that.

It's simply wimpy to not want to follow best standards, to live in a "safe" space and fear to discuss the rules.

What's with the bitterness and name calling? That's not a very mature reaction!

If you want to propose a rule change you don't do it by first breaking it and then complaining about the consequences.

If you think so little of this group, why are you still here? Feel free to vote with your feet. You won't be missed.

I have chosen to disagree with you, you have chosen to disagree with all others. Whatever your purpose, the result of your posts is a portrait of a person that not many would want to have a social drink with.

You ARE fun. You have misfired on all three of your points, and you don't even know it.

So, "all others" disagree with me. That is SO sloppy!

First of all, "all"? I think you mean the coterie that continue to gum up a potentially decent discussion that has moved from "all (including me)" AGREEING on the rules to something meaty about copyright, critique, and personal preference.

"Whatever my purpose"? It's only been stated many times. Not sure what your challenge is.

Finally, missing a social drink with those here who are hateful in their "virtue" does not seem to me a sacrifice at all.

It is kind of fun, if kicks are what is looked for, and I do share that aspect.

The overwhelming inability to understand, the overwhelming ability to hammer at something already settled, the sad avoidance of discussing topics important to serious photographers, while initiating hate speech--that stuff is not as fun to experience.

It seems most of the good members (open to discussion, interested in giving and receiving) just keep their heads down after having spoken once, or sometimes not at all. Understandable.
