Just a quick check on netiquette

Is it now acceptable to edit someone else's image without first asking permission??

This has happened twice in a number of weeks and appears to be directly for the posters own inflated ego as both edits looked like they were edited by beginners???

Look forward to see if this has now changed on the Hog

Regards
Joe

The rules are available at the beginning of every section. You can check them out for yourself instead of hoping you get a correct answer here.

ManyUFF have listed on their posting about not altering your image or adding an image to your post.

The Photo Gallery FAQ includes:

- Please do not edit and re-upload other people's pictures without their explicit permission. In other words, you may not open someone's topic, download an image, edit it (that includes adjusting settings, cropping, adding/removing visual elements, etc.), re-post it, and say "here is a version of your photo that I like better" unless they specifically ask for it.

You should PM user = ADMIN with a link to each thread and your concerns. The guideline above applies to all sections on UHH except a few where the section FAQ explicitly states the section exists to explore / help on editing.

Volunteer-moderated sections may have different rules from Photo Gallery. During my brief tour as manager of PP Forum, I changed the permissions to read, "When a user asks for assistance or advice, respondents may post edits of the original shot unless the OP specifically prohibits. Please be sure to include information on how you fixed/improved." (I posted a topic of explanation, as well.)

There, in the circumstances mentioned, I felt it made more sense to show than to simply tell.

In Photo Gallery, the majority of users are sharing, not asking for advice or feedback in the opening comments. However, I have read comments from photographers who were gracious and/or appreciative of unrequested edits. It is the responsibility of the OP to alert Admin if he/she wishes to have someone else's edit or a posted pic (i.e. hijacking) removed.

Presumably, Admin will advise the offender to cease and desist..."or else"

Hopefully, you were also able to communicate with the manager and have resolved the issue. All the best.

As Linda suggested, a PM discussion should help. If not, you can unsubscribe from that section.

Unfortunately the Manager of the section has not responded to myself telling him not to edit my images.... I'll see if he has the decency to at least remove the offending image … I hate when HDR techniques are applied to people let alone babys skin

Joe

I think it is rude without being asked.

I have seen that down to mine on facebook. You just have to see it as a compliment and move on.

Keep in mind the managers are volunteers who are not on call 24/7. Chances are the issue will be resolved to your satisfaction. It just might take a little longer than you anticipated.
