FaceBook Albums are folders called albums that you create on your facebook account that you store your photo's. I have a bunch of them. You can name them whatever you want. I have Family, Cats, Dogs Misc, Oldies, Flowers, etc. etc.

FaceBook Portal is a device who's main purpose is to work exactly as Facebook Messenger, for video chats. My wife bought two on sale for $80 each, and she uses them to talk to my 2 year old granddaughter who lives on the other side of the country. You can do the same with a cell phone, but this thing will follow you around the room, zooming in and out, and has a large screen.

The portal also has apps like YouTube, Iheart radio and so on and interfaces with Alexa if you want.

The most valuable feature (to me) is the ability to do a random slideshow of pictures you have in your facebook albums. I can turn on or off any or all albums thus, all my favorite pictures display randomly on my kitchen counter 24-7, and my PC does NOT have to be on. Sizing the pictures to display correctly is not easy though. Facebook does some very weird stuff when it resizes, making it difficult to correctly display picture with borders. For some reason it does fine with portraits, not so well with landscapes.

My wife, who rarely to never sees my magnificent photo work now gets to enjoy them anytime she is in the kitchen. It really is neat, I have about 500 pics on there so far with no limit in sight.

Seems pretty obvious that few, if any, under 40 responded to this thread.

I set up FB accounts for my parents when they retired so they could keep up with the doings of the kids. It gave them passive access to our lives, which was a blessing because prior when one would get bored they'd call - for the most part that was fine, except being in college and working what felt like 24/7 was not really convenient. My mom tired of it quickly but my dad enjoys the groups immensely for the discussion they offer.

Like I told them at the time - social media is what you make of it. If you dump all your time in to it, hopefully you are getting something out of it. If you don't want to participate, don't. Your happiness is up to you, and if that involves social outreach, great, but if it doesn't, no one cares.

The only time I use it is when I get a message telling me that a friend has posted something. I don't see any use for it, but some people live by it. It's a fantastic resource for getting information about people - info which can then be sold. Of course, truth has no place on FB.

Portal is a neat little gadget if you don’t value your privacy. Like Alexa and Google Home it’s always listening but Portal is also always watching. Add to that Facebooks track record on privacy and you have Big Brother. The best part of Portal is its camera can follow you around the room so it can really see everything you do. If you want to display pictures any smart tv can do that easily, on a not so smart tv it can be done with a fire stick. The good news is portal also has Alexa built in so it can do fun things like turn lights off and on and unlock your front door if you have “smart locks” for burglars. But don’t worry as long as you remember to put the cover on the camera when you and the wife decide to get romantic in the living room you won’t be broadcasting porn live to all your Facebook friends 😃

To add more to the mix, according to the recent Time magazine, our national leader is using Facebook, with millions of adds for his re-election. Why? According to Time, Facebook is the one remaining social media that won't proof-read the post.

Is it me or my age, I am not a big user of Facebook but tend to look at it from time to time and people have a tendency to put the dumbest things on it such as having breakfast at, having lunch at, or having a glass of wine at, I do believe these people have no life or just need to tell everyone what they do on a a daily basis. Please tell me is it just me.

Fully agree except for the TV part. Big difference from having a small screen on your kitchen counter that is fed by a live stream from your facebook albums that can be viewed anytime you are in the kitchen, or not. A TV is nice for displaying pics but it would be extremely intrusive to have it displaying my pictures 24-7 on a 55" TV. Sort of the same but not really. I forgot to mention on the portal, you can flick through your pics with a finger swipe, just like you can on a cell phone.

As far as broadcasting porn to all my facebook friends, not likely to happen. I don't think anything can be seen on facebook, and if Zuckerberg and his gang want to watch me or my wife in the kitchen, woe is them:-) I do worry a wee little bit about listening in which we might occasionally broadcast when we won't be home for burglars, but that can be done on phones, email and all sorts of ways, but probably never going to happen. Occasionally I'll say "Lucy, we're going out for a bit, load your gun and shoot anyone that comes in that ain't us" Been working so far...
Lucy is my cat....

Don't do Facebook, or any other social websites. Never have, never will.
I have no need for it.

I communicate with my sister in Denver, see photos of my relatives as they grow up. Also found a group who publish all the old haunts we used to visit, photos of where my music group used to perform, old newspaper articles. etc. Especially fun since I no longer live in that area anymore. Also found some old friends who I never would have found if not for Facebook. I don't care so much as to what they are doing at the moment, but it is great to reminisce over old times (82 years old).
