Maybe I am in the minority here but Facebook is like an onion with many layers... taken at face value there is a lot of ranting, raving and idle chatter. For many people who are housebound, disabled etc... it is a way to keep up with friends, old work acquaintances etc... Peel back a few layers of Facebook and you will find a wealth of special interests groups in almost any subject you can imagine. I myself belong to at least 6 Camera groups from which a lot of knowledge is exchanged. The Hog itself is just a special interest group. I think way too many people just take FB at face value ( no pun intended ).

You are absolutely correct. But, it does help me as I do not have to call 300 friends every night to say good night.

Ya know...….You can "UnFollow" anyone at any time.
Not the same as "UnFriend".

I do not even have a FB account (or any other "social media").
But my wife and son have many and it bothers me with all the
"beeps" and sounds it makes at each received message. A major
PITA, IMHO.

If you are interested BBC iplayer has Sir Berners Lee (The inventer of the World Wide Web) discussing his disquiet about how the WWW is being used. Under a Richard Dimbleby Annual Lecture. (Also on Youtube).

He is getting businesses to 'become more strict' in their information to counter 'Fake News'. He also points out that users should realise that 'their comments on facebook' NEVER go away.....so think before typing! What would your employer or future employer find: would they be impressed! He suggests that individuals should be more savvy in selecting where they get their Information from....and less reliant upon 'sharing URL,s'

Fake news, he states, is worse than cyber crime and financial crime. He states that many countries elections are being rigged by fake posts suggesting A politician is particularly interested in their problems and B politition cares less. Targetting small groups is particularly effective as fake news is not seen as a crime by law enforcement as no money or property is taken from the individual. Including The US he says that sixteen countries have changed their political leaders by these means in the last ten years. Democracy is failing. The current election propaganda in the UK is a prime example where 'headlines' are being 'disproved' daily. The BBC is being called Pro Conservative (when by law it has to be even handed). The majority of the press is also 'Conservative' aligned. (3 owners control 79% of circulation)

Short of demanding censorship he hopes that countries will sign up to deal with businesses and individuals to demand that 'fake news sites' be identified, taken down and prosecuted.

It is an interesting article

I agree with you, too much uninteresting info about nothing. I also find the comments about "darling, beautiful, and other gushing remarks about children, family to be so over the top..

I use pretty much like a diary - put a thoughts up there, some photo's, quite useful for keeping in touch with the family.

here in the U.K. a lot of smaller places have Community pages, and special Interest pages such as 'Stokenchurch in old Pictures' etc.

The golden rule is 'If you put it up there don't ever expect to come of'. I generally like it - my neighbour won't go near it.

Whether you are right or wrong, my question is.... why does it bother you? And, are you not doing the very same thing here on UHH by posting this?

I wonder why people don’t change to Twitter. If the leader of the free world uses Twitter, he’d be a great ambassador for it. It might put Facebook out of business??

I use Facebook solely to put my favorite pictures in Facebook albums. These are then displayed on my wife's Facebook portal which is on our kitchen counter. The rest of FB I don't bother with, ever. I like this because I do all my photo work on my desktop PC and it's super easy to just upload the ones I want to Facebook albums, then, they will immediately be included in the portal slideshow, which runs 24-7 whether my PC is on or not. The screen is around 10" and is super quality. Very enjoyable.
I use Facebook solely to put my favorite pictures ... (show quote)

It’s not just you. Homes have been broken into because people are dumb enough to to advertise when they are not home.

FaceBook Albums are folders called albums that you create on your facebook account that you store your photo's. I have a bunch of them. You can name them whatever you want. I have Family, Cats, Dogs Misc, Oldies, Flowers, etc. etc.

FaceBook Portal is a device who's main purpose is to work exactly as Facebook Messenger, for video chats. My wife bought two on sale for $80 each, and she uses them to talk to my 2 year old granddaughter who lives on the other side of the country. You can do the same with a cell phone, but this thing will follow you around the room, zooming in and out, and has a large screen.

The portal also has apps like YouTube, Iheart radio and so on and interfaces with Alexa if you want.

The most valuable feature (to me) is the ability to do a random slideshow of pictures you have in your facebook albums. I can turn on or off any or all albums thus, all my favorite pictures display randomly on my kitchen counter 24-7, and my PC does NOT have to be on. Sizing the pictures to display correctly is not easy though. Facebook does some very weird stuff when it resizes, making it difficult to correctly display picture with borders. For some reason it does fine with portraits, not so well with landscapes.

My wife, who rarely to never sees my magnificent photo work now gets to enjoy them anytime she is in the kitchen. It really is neat, I have about 500 pics on there so far with no limit in sight.
