Editing someone else's image without at least asking....

Editing another’s image without being asked to or given permission is contrary to the rules of the forum as I read them (whether done by a section manager or not). Hoping that as soon as the manager reads your P/M, the issue will be resolved.

Just a quick check on netiquette

Is it now acceptable to edit someone else's image without first asking permission??

This has happened twice in a number of weeks and appears to be directly for the poster's own inflated ego as both edits looked like they were edited by beginners???

Look forward to seeing if this has now changed on the Hog

Regards
Joe

AM not interested unless the OP asks for assistance.

Unfortunately the Manager of the section has not responded to myself telling him not to edit my images.... I'll see if he has the decency to at least remove the offending image … I hate when HDR techniques are applied to people let alone baby's skin

Hi there. I m the culprit. I did not see your PM until late today and promptly removed the offending image. I do not monitor the section on a 24/7 basis. In that section, as manager, I do allow edits to illustrate corrections from time to time- they are not meant to represent finished work, just to point out various suggestions. I have removed the image and the accompanying critique. You original post remains for others to see or comment on. I was remiss in not noticing the notice in you signature.

I apologise for any upset I have caused. To avoid any further issues of this nature going forward, I will post some new or more specific rules for the section. I will explain how critiques are made and advise folks not to post sensitive, copyrighted material, or images that they don't wish to be reproduced in the section for reasons of critique.

All submissions to the section are welcomed and the section is not restricted to professional or advanced portraitists. I do however,, want to discourage "attaboy" comments so if someone thinks an image is "great, perfect, great capture" etc, the should state the reason for their opinion.

PS.:there no HDR applications. The image was edited on my tablet and the reproduction on a large screen WAS terrible!

Sorry Ed

You did not critique...
You added that it deserved advanced editing in your opinion... And who is going to do the advanced editing?? certainly not yourself

You then continued to poorly edit it....

As a so called professional I would expect at least a message of apology not a PM saying …

Done!!

And please ensure when you change the rules that you do not revisit my images to show your ability..... They are still copyrighted and you are not welcome to edit any of them...

One thing I have noticed is people who do edit without asking hardly ever post their own original work and when they do it is of really poor quality or out of focus... Makes you think why they do it??

Just a bit of food for thought

Now who's out of line?
Btw JoeJoe you could have mentioned in your last post that you just today added this line to your posts, "Ask before you edit any of my images...… They are all copyrighted "

The man apologized and attempted to smooth the waters but I guess you didn't get your pound of flesh yet and proceeded to insult him.

I'm sorry to drag this out but there WAS a critique offered in the post. I woud have not reproduced the image in any manner without an accompanying text. I made remarks about composition, space, possibility of vignetting, background etc. Of course, you have the right to disagree with any and all of that and object to the reproduction- no argument there!

I am also sorry that my apology was insufficient and not timely enough and you certainly needn't be concerned that I will reproduce any of you images. I addressed your demand as soon as I read the PM.

It is rare, on this forum, that anyone publicially apologizes for any and all kinds of inappropriate behavior. I suppose that many folks around here enjoy the infighting and like to add fuel to the fires and post unnecessary admonishments and reiteration of the rules even BEFORE an issue is settled between the parties concerned- a kinda gang mentality that sets in.

Yes. He advised privately that he removed the image in response to your complaint.

Then he apologized publicly. That shows character.

I don't think it's acceptable without the permission of the person who took the photo.
I do not make money or prestige from my images (you have only to look at them to understand why). So read my signature.
