Yes, definitely. The D750 is great, and the D610 is old with a tarnished reputation.

The D610 is a replacement for the D600 which had a problem with oil on the sensor. Truth be told the 600 problem was limited to a couple production runs and due to the usual "sky is falling" public perception about EVERYTHING, the D600 is a pariah. Most D600s are good to go, the others are being/have been fixed and are good to go. The D610 is impeccable and is a great FF intro camera as is the D600 if you can find one.
In the world of DSLRs the D750 ain't no spring chicken.

Both the D750 and D610 came out around 2012-2013. I have to wonder if it makes sense to invest 1000.00 or so into older technology. Many advances have been made in the last 6-7 years that you might want to take advantage of now rather than going backwards. ...

True, but that is kind of like saying "Don't buy that 1936 Cris Craft because boats are made much better today". I'm 69. Don't write-off old stuff so fast.

I am in full agreement with dandi. If your D7200 is doing the job I do not see why you should rush to buy a D610.
I own a D610 and it is a great camera. I bought it because I had several AI and D lenses and those lenses make a difference when used with full frame. I use my D7000 more often than I do the D610 specially for wildlife photography.

Thanks to all of you for your informed opinions and suggestions. They are much appreciated. After mulling it over for some time, reading the comments and checking reviews, I decided to postpone a decision that would have been based a great deal on price. Interesting to read that some of you are using both the FX and DX formats. I am happy with my D7200, but will need an additional body for a planned trip to Greece in fall 2020 in case of a malfunction. Thanks again!

Need an opinion regarding the purchase of a new D610. My local photo store has the Nikon D610 (from Nikon Canada) with 50 mm 1.8 lens and battery grip on for about $900 US, but only until tomorrow. I have a number of older Nikon AI and AF -D lenses from my film days. I currently have a Nikon D7200 with the 18 - 140 mm VR and 10 - 20 mm VR lenses - both DX. I would have gone FX with the D750 at the time, but it was a bit too high in price. The D610 came out in 2013, but at this price it is tempting.

Reading all of the replies to your post, something that I did not see anyone else mentioned, is that the D610 has been officially listed as discontinued by Nikon, along with the D810.

https://nikonrumors.com/2019/12/04/the-nikon-d610-and-d810-dslr-cameras-are-now-officially-discontinued.aspx/

Does this mean that the D610 is not a good camera anymore? No, certainly not. But what it does mean is that if something should happen to it and it needs repair, that may not be possible if there are not any parts available for it, or Nikon can't or won't work on it because it is a discontinued product.

Just something to consider.

pego, Thanks. I don't doubt that for a minute. The sale is officially over here, but in view of the info above, I wouldn't be surprised to see it return if dealers still have stock available. In view of the popularity of mirrorless cameras today, I wonder when it will be the D750's turn.

I'd get a D800 over any of these. You can find good clean used ones for between $600 and $700, and still have $$ left over for a lens.

I second Gene's suggestion. Here is a link to Adorama for used D800, D800E, and D810.

Beware the pressure sale. Check reviews D 610 vs. D 750 - there are very good prices on the D 750 lately.

looks more like $1900 to me

I have a 610 and a 7000. One advantage of this combination is that they share the same batteries, and many of the controls are the same. My wife occasionally uses the 7000 as a point and shoot.

I mostly shoot land/seascapes. My wife shoots whatever strikes her fancy.

We have format specific lenses in prime and zoom.

The big thing for me is the commonality. It has been one reason for not allowing GAS to make me move to one of the 800 series.
