Here's another I stumbled across while geocaching in the Mojave desert. It's about 8' tall. Kinda cool although not really environmentally friendly, it's better than spray paint.

Hey there, Dirtsurgeon, I like that van with all the the bicycles tied to its top. Does the guy live in that van, or does he just drive it around? Is there a reason for the bicycles being tied to the van, or is he just making a fashion statement?

This guy has been around LA for quite some time. This is one of his favorite parking spots.
I often wondered what bicyclists would think if this guy were to slowly follow them around.

Not real sure Gizzy if he lives there or not. He wasn't at the wheel at the time and I didn't want to knock.
I'm thinking he may live in the van and just drives short distances in order to avoid local parking ordinances.

My guess is that it's a collection gone wild.
Probably started with a spare tire, an extra chain, and before you know it.....

Maybe I'll see if I can't talk to the guy if I see him.
Depends on the look in his eye, ha.

Is that face in the rock caused by natural formation, or do you think someone carved it in there?

You can see the chips laying all around the base of the thing.
It could probably be called eco-vandalism but not in my opinion. Not like spray painting gang monikers on rocks.

Here is another shot where you can see the chips on the ground.

It's definately carved
It's definately carved...

For Gizzy.... 'cause I love him and know how much he loves THESE! :P
*snickers*

Only here... they're radioactive because of the nuclear waste spills from the Three Mile Island Nuclear Facility.

'Course getting them to take responsibility is tough... maybe I should send this little guy to shake 'em up! ;)

It was hard to get the truth out of the locals, since no one actually saw how it happened. I can tell you the name of the town, Ocean City, Md.

Is that where they have that big wild 4th of July three day party event every year?
You get 20 hours of sunlight in the summer?

Yes, we get lots of daylight in summer but I don't know about any 3 day parties. I'm sure there are a few but not being a "party person" I don't keep up on that stuff. During that time it never really gets dark. The sun is circling at such a shallow angle that dawn & dusk overlap. Several communities do have Summer Solstice affairs and they can get pretty wild. Not much in the way of 4th of July fireworks though. Few folks would stay up that late to see them. New Years Eve is our big fireworks day. After that Fur Rendezvous and the Iditarod are the big local celebrations in the state.

Okay, Carioca, I'll buy that one about the school bus on the railroad. But what do they do with it once they've got up on the railroad and traveling down the track? I mean... why?

Tilde, sweetheart, you know I love you. But you really do know how to shiver me timbers. I do NOT like spiders! So what's the deal with the glowing spider? You say it's really radioactive? Or is this something I gotta try to figure out for myself -- Believe It Or Not?

Wow Gizzy, didn't know spiders weren't your thing. :D

We like the big ones around here. Keeps the crawling pests in check and are quite gentle little guys.

All the photos in this string, PLEASE, no PhotoShopped entries, okay? Just dig through all your image files looking for the bazaar, strange, unusual -- people, places and things. And if you don't mind, please give us a short description of the Who, What, Why, When and Where of the photo(s).

The first photo I'm submitting was taken about 3 years ago, in February, parked along a street in Louisiana, Missouri. We were in a little river-side park way up on a high bluff and just happened to look south along a street... and there was this most ususual "bus" I've ever seen. The license plate was from New York. Lettering on the back and sides say "Teva Learning Center" Other lettering on the side says, "Make An Impact, Change Your World" and "The Jewish Climate Change Campaign". Believe It Or Not?

I'll play...Photo #1 - old shot taken with my Minolta SRT 202, Kodachrome 25, about 30 years ago long before Photoshop, Computers and DSLR. Which I developed in my darkroom on Cibachrome paper...but scanned for this post. Photo #2 - shot with my Bronica SQA medium format camera perfect reflection, but the colors aren't too great. I think it was slide film, again about 30 years ago. Photo #3 taken with my Canon XS, one of my many "drive by shootings" traveling about 55 mph down the highway, set on sports setting. Enjoy, Cheryl

Niko, isn't the first an abandoned suit of armor? Gone on to a higher level keel! Tracheal 'skin' (white) and leg position aren't quite right for life pose. I'd love to have taken that one for teaching moments.
