I got a camera-trigger ticket in France two years ago. I didn't know it till we had been home a couple of months. The ticket and payment instructions were in french. My daughter could translate for me and it was just a matter of paying online with a credit card after that.
I was told to ignore it by some friends, as others have mentioned. Not only might other EU countries give you grief, I've been told the rental car company may not rent to you again, so consider those things.

Personally, I'd blow it off. Even if I went back I wouldn't worry about it because I'm a law abiding driver and it would be VERY rare to get another ticket or to be stopped again.

Remember, you most likely had to give your passport info to the rental company. If so and if you decide to never go back to the EU, you do not have to worry about. If they have your PP info and you go back without having paid the fine, a nice surprise will be waiting for you when entering the EU. If that happens, I will guarantee that you wished you would have paid the ticket. Trust me.

Years ago I went to school in Illinois. I lived in Michigan. I got a ticket in Illinois, but the officer who wrote the ticket wrote my address as Pontiac, Illinois. Yes, there is both a Pontiac, Michigan and a Pontiac, Illinois. I just forgot about it and they never found me.

I paid it using transferwise. I did needed to get the credit card company involved. And we are planning to back to Austria, and some of the Balkan countries next year.

Unfortunately (for you), most rental car companies (at least US based companies) will pay the ticket and amend your bill and charge your credit card, and by then, the payment is late so the charge to your card will be 2x-3x the original ticket cost. I can’t speak for European rental companies, but I can tell you from experience, it is true in the US.

Do you plan to ever go back? If not, you might save yourself some aggravation and forget it.
This reminds me that years ago the company HR dept. sent me a speeding ticket along with a picture of me behind the wheel that was sent to them by the staties or someone. There was a note also that asked if this was me driving the company van or was it the company president's son. The ticket was no big deal but I always liked to tweak junior so I sent it back to them with a note saying "I do not recall but I don't think I own a shirt that looks like that." Never heard another word about it.

When DC was in my territory, I finished appointments early one day and parked in a legal parking space near the Smithsonian and visited one of the museums I had never visited before. Upon returning to the company van, I discovered that the legal parking space became illegal at 4PM (rush hour) and there was a $50 ticket on the windshield. Like any experienced out-of-town salesperson, I dutifully threw it in the trash. When I left the company, I specifically told my replacement never to park the company van in DC. I found later that he ignored my advice and returned to the van to find it booted by one of the roving bands of enforcers that DC employs to deal with parking miscreants. I understand it cost $500 to get the vehicle released. (I don’t throw parking tickets away anymore)

Either use paypal or ask your bank to arrange a bank transfer. You could actually send cash as i did when i got a ticket in Australia
