Since she likes photography, and probably will only be carrying the phone with her, spend the extra for the 11 Pro. That extra lens will add versatility and quality to her portraits.

Get the Pro. I just ordered one after doing the same comparison. It will replace my dual lens iPhone 7 Plus that has a similar 52 mm lens. I have used that lens quite often. It is also nice for video as the phone will automatically switch between lenses as you zoom. You just have to be aware that if you zoom more than 2x you are getting into digital zoom. But the main reason for the price difference between the 11 and 11 pro is the OLED screen on the pro vs LCD on the 11.

I got the 11Pro for myself and the 11 for my wife. I wanted the extra lens as well as the larger screen size and longer battery life. My wife is not into photography but does use the camera on her phone more than she would a regular camera. We are both satisfied with the models we got so for me the extra money was worth it.

I just traded in my XR for the 11 Pro. It's not the telephoto lens that is remarkable it's the wide angle one and its low light capabilities as well as being waterproof (up to 30 minutes) and shock resistant and stabilized. The portrait lens has different lighting capabilities to dial in for studio effects. Software available before you take the shot and software to make any changes afterwards. Good video. All without being fiddly.

I bought my XR last year for 499.00 with trade in allowance and received 400.00 trade in allowance towards the 11 Pro. Not bad. Then I changed my phone carrier from Sprint to Verizon and picked up another 400.00 this year so the cost of the phone came to under 400.00 net.

Do I take birds and BIFs with it- no. Long exposure photos-no. Macro photos- no. Landscapes- not usually unless it's to share on social media although I have gotten some good ones and have seen excellent ones taken by others. . It is just another tool - not the be all and end all. It's fun to use, easy to carry, quick to transfer images to social media, accepted in all venues, does an excellent job within its limitations and oh has a phone attached :)

The iPhone 11 Pro is $400 more than the iPhone 11. It looks like the only difference in the camera is the Pro has an addition zoom lens. Is it worth the extra $400?

I gave my iPhone X to my wife who was using an iPhone 6 and bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I didn't think I would be using the ultra wide angle lens, but I was mistaken. I took this shot with that lens. It's also good for night shooting.

I believe the Pro also has night shooting capabilities not in the other cameras. FWIW

The Pro has a telephoto lens. It’s fixed, not a zoom. I have an iPhone 10 XR and miss a telephoto feature. I can digitally zoom but that’s it. I’d go for the Pro.

That maybe true. Maybe. It is hard to get a dial tone on a point and shoot.

What’s a dial tone? :)

She bought the Pro. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Yeah iPhone 11’s cameras are fantastic.

Rate low light shot.

That’s the term referring to the artful blurring of the background in a photo.

When the lens is referred to as a 52mm equivalent. sensor size is taken into account.
The Iphone has no telephoto lens, nor are any of the 3 lens "Zoom Lens"...
Any zooming is done digitally between the lens.

When you consider the size of the sensor, it certainly is a telephoto...

It’s not a 52mm lens, it’s equivalent to a 52mm on a full frame.

I opted for the iPhone 11 over the Pro model. It wasn't worth the difference to me. I use the iPhone for snap shots. I use it when hiking and backpacking. It's always with me. It takes great pictures intended for posting, emails, small prints. For more "serious" tasks, I use my Canon EOS R with my legacy lenses. I have no regrets about my decision.
